Race Rules
  1. Two competitors in any one canoe at any one time, except C1, K1 or other special exceptions granted by race officials. Competitors must participate for the duration of the race in the same canoe/kayak that they start with.
  2. No additional or unregistered passengers in boats.
  3. A single blade canoe paddle of any width is the only means of propulsion each canoeist may use. Competitors in kayaks may use double-bladed paddles.
  4. Competitors under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian sign waiver.
  5. Contestants may pick up additional food, water or paddles during the race. Only in an emergency situation may a boat receive other help.
  6. A boat may be aided by the safety boats and continue the race.
  7. Competitors are responsible for their own food and water during race.
  8. Commonly accepted rules of sportsmanship will prevail. Intentional capsizing or damaging an opponent's boat, or other unsportsman-like conduct will result in disqualification.
  9. All participants are required to attend race meetings prior to their event.
  10. Decking and spray skirts are permitted.
  11. Every participant is required to sign a waiver form before competing in the Canoe Classic.
  12. Race rules are subject to the interpretation of the Race Committee.
  13. The Race Committee may change the race courses on race day due to water level conditions. If this occurs, the Committee will make every effort to give participants adequate time to adjust to the changes.
Safety Regulations
  • Competitors in all categories must wear a US Coast Guard approved life preserver while in the water.
  • All boats must have bow and stern lines.
  • All boats must have a bailer (a sponge will not qualify).
  • All boats must have a whistle on board.
  • All boats must have a safety check before the race.
