Nelson Search & Rescue

Nelson Search and Rescue is a group of approximately 40 highly skilled volunteers whose mandate is to respond to assist local police and ambulance personal in a variety of different ways. The Nelson area is world famous for its recreational use especially during the winter season resulting in the majority of workload preformed by the team being carried out over the winter months. The team consists of a management team, rope rescue team, swiftwater team, trackers and HETS Class D longline personal. These members include physicians, paramedics, avalanche technicians, professional guides as well as a wide array of local residents with high back country skills. These highly skilled members respond on average to 30 calls per year day or night sometimes under some very challenging and difficult conditions. NSAR is recognized for its high level of equipment to support our members as well as the willingness of members to provide personal gear when required to carry out a task. This level of skill, equipment and training has allowed NSAR to function at an extremely high level of efficiency and safety not formally available in most small interior communities.
