It all gets started here. Beer, ski/snowboard films and draw prizes…what
more could you ask for. This year we have more of a film festival feel to the evening, along with
some great local brews from Nelson Brewing Company. These snowsports films have a soulful backcountry
feel to them. They come from all over the world and that they will make you laugh, cry, go crazy, get
psyched, and stare in bewilderment.
Tracking the Soul – Germany 2004 – 30 min.
A camera team accompanies two young and reckless cross-country skiers. The whole winter they
are on the search for their perfect tracks, traveling through the alps in a run-down bus.
Yes to the No – Canada, 2006, 10 min.
Noboard short film. Fresh from Revelstoke, Noboarding…what is this?? A look into the sport of
noboarding, which is snowboarding without the use of bindings. Really surf the mountains.
Gasherbrum II - the Fastest Summit - Germany, 2006, 29 min.
Benedik Bohm and Sebastian Haag are up to something completely new in the world of mountaineering:
the speed ascent of a major peak followed by a ski descent, which the Germans call “sky running.”
In this film, they attempt to sky run to the summit of Gasherbrum II (8,053 m) and descend back to
base camp in one day.
Nine Winters Old – USA, 2006 63 min.

captivating original score are backdrops for humorous and heart-warming stories of those, young
and old, who come alive for wintertime.
SKIING IN THE SHADOW OF GENGHIS KHAN – Timeless Skiers of the Altai - USA, 2008, 49 min.
Timeless Skiers of the Altai - Ski instructor and filmmaker Nils Larsen travelled to China to
investigate the ancient roots of skiing, and the early skis that are still being used by the people
of the Altai today. Travelling with photographer Dave Waag and skier Naheed Henderson, Larsen collected
stories and information on the evolution of ski travel, and saw first-hand the heavy, skinned skis
still in use.
Solilo Chairlift Quist – USA, 10 min.

and touching insight into one ride in the life of a ski bum on his hundredth plus day of the season."
