What will I need to cross the border?
A passport would be best. If you don’t have a passport you MUST have a state issue photo id and your birth certificate. Web info. www.gonorthwest.com

How far is it from Spokane to Nelson?
It’s 165 miles – 3:45 min.

Is lodging included?

Where to stay in Nelson?
Look at www.nelsonbc.ca for more information about lodging in Nelson. Ask for your Cold Smoke Powder Fest discount when making your reservations as many local lodging facilities are offering an event discount.

What time zone is nelson on?
Pacific Standard Time.

How much of my own gear do I need to bring?
You should bring all your gear. Remember, this is February skiing. Bring your best cold weather clothing and a day pack to carry extra gloves, hat, and food-water. Yes there is demo gear for you to use, but you will have to share.

Is there a bus from Nelson to Whitewater?
Yes, we are providing transportation. Pick up and drop off will be at Whitewater Downtown Office, Hume Hotel, Alpine Motel.

Are you providing lunch?
No, you will need pack your own lunch and water. Lunch is NOT a candy bar. Good cold weather food includes cheese, sausage, food with substance, and water!

Are you providing Friday Night Dinner?
No. Participants are responsible for their meals on Friday.

How many people per clinic?
Most In Area clinics will have a maximum of 8 participants per clinic. Out of Bounds clinics will have a maximum of 10 participants plus 2 instructors/guides per clinic.

Will gear be provided for avalanche and beacon clinics?
Yes, we are limiting the number of participants in each clinic to ensure we have enough gear.

Gear for Out of bounds clinics?
All out of bounds clinics require you to have your own gear including a shovel, probe, transceiver, food, and water.

Will there be Demo gear available?
Demo gear will be checked out at vendor booths. Each vendor will have a time limit on how long you can checkout the gear. Demo gear is provided on a first come, first serve. Please return your demo gear timely so that others will have an opportunity to try out the newest gear. Out of bounds clinics require that you have your own gear. Please do not rely on any demo gear for out of bounds clinics.

How does Registration Work?
Login to this site and then select your registration options, then select clinics, enter payment and continue through the check out process. Once your order has been processed, you will receive an email confirmation. After receiving your confirmation you can still go back and change add other participants and change clinic choices.

Can I change clinics?
Yes, you can change clinics up to Wednesday the 20th. as long as there is space in the clinic.

How do I rate my skiing / boarding ability?
We have three ability levels,
Beginner - as a beginner you should be able to ski / board on green circle (beginner) runs.
Intermediate - as an intermediate you should be able to ski / board blue squares, link turns on ungroomed low angle slopes.
Advanced - ski / board on black diamond runs, ski / board steep ungroomed snow, ski the trees.

How do I rate my Backcontry Experience level?
Beginner - never been in the backcountry.
Intermediate - have been in the backcountry but only on low angle terrain.
Advanced - have ski / board in backcountry and have taken an avalanche course.

What is required for the backcountry / out of bounds clinics?
You MUST have your own (not a demo) Beacon, Shovel, Probe, Climbing Skins and a pack with food and water.

What if I need to Cancel?
If you cancel with less than 48 hours notice prior to the start of the event, your registration fee will not be refunded. If you candel with more than 48 hours notice prior to the start of the event, all but a $10 administrative fee per cancelled entry will be refunded to the credit card charged initially for the registration.

Is there a minimum age requirement?
No, the requirement for clinics is based on skill not age. For the social events there will be beer so if you plan on drinking you must have photo id. The drinking age is 19.

Are there facilities for young children?
Yes. There is day care for children over 18 months and adventure camp for those 6 and over. More info can be found at www.skiwhitewater.com
