Great piece
By PhillipVerified Reviewer from Great Pacific NW on 5/22/2009
Pros:
Simple, Very good quality
Cons:
So far so good
Best Uses:
Indoor climbing, Outdoor climbing
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Petzl Ascension Ascender:

I use an 11 mm rescue/rappel rope. I think its great! The teeth are a bit sharp as the rope will wear quicker but, its better than a fall. Always carry a chord for a Prusik knot for backup.

Comments about Petzl Ascension Ascender:

Best bought in pair of left and right handed.

These are the best thing you can use for inriding and outriding with a rescue litter.

It allows you to safely bypass knots and pinch points with speed.

Very hard to use downclimbing on anything above 11mm, even 11mm you need to understand you want to be pulling the rope against the guide not the teeth.

Excelent holding ability.

When you want to carry out a rescue and it's a short walk in there a for sure piece of gear.

These things can really get you out of a jam.

Best used on a cowtails or Tubular with webbing to tie into, with some adjustable foot loops

Not ment to be used as Rescucender for a releasable brake due to cam angle and teeth to aggressive.

See the new model from Petzl out now... looks shiny :oP

Comments about Petzl Ascension Ascender:

I like this new design compared to the older models. Very rugged and easy to clean and maintain. Also very easy to back down the rope when needed and easy to tie to. The teeth are sharp and are hard on the rope’s sheathing. I also like the fact that the right hand and left hand are colored different for easy identification. I never go vertical caving or rock climbing with out one and they have never let me down.

Pros:
Easy on and off, Lightweight, Rugged
Cons:
None
Best Uses:

Comments about Petzl Ascension Ascender:

A great product that is reasonably priced. I would like to see an ascender that doesn't use the conical pins on the cam lobe but still has great holding power.

Grest for what the it is made for. However it is not made for every day use. It's only made for the times when its truly needed.
