Comments about Garmont 7TM Brake:

For tele in the backcountry, 7tm is the way to go. The brakes allow you to completely separate from the ski, yet keep the ski from running away. You don't need a runaway leash attaching the boot to the ski. This is nice in an ordinary fall, imperative in an avalanche. HOWEVER, to ensure that this all works properly, you need a leash around your boot to hold the heel lever shut and keep it from releasing the boot from the binding. If just the boot is released, the brake is not actuated and your ski can become a deadly missle, careening down the slope. You can make your own strap, but it would be great if Mountain Gear sold the 7tm version, which is convenient and easy to use.

Skiing the backcountry, I definitely want to separate from my skis if I get caught in an avalanche. I like the releasability of the 7tm for that and for leg/knee protection. The brakes allow release and prevent the ski from running away. They're a great solution, though rather expensive.

They hold my boots to the skies better than 3pins and cables, and release too.
