The Arcteryx name provides plenty of brand value and engineering prowess, however the full retail price would not have motivated a purchase. If you can't find these outstanding softshells on sale, wait until you do...then grab one! There are simply too many lesser priced brands with similar engineering that build like products at much lower prices. The difference for me was the great sale price Mountan Gear provided which brought this item back in line with it's competitors. It did cost and is worth more than the competition. Just be sure the price delta isn't out of line with other alternatives. The MX Gamma is one of those back country tools that is almost Swiss Army knife-like in that it is there for you in a variety of weather and layering situations while taking up minimal space and weight in your pack. Durable, functional, and warm when fitted right.If the hood was removeable, it would be the perfect casual coat as well. Thanks to Mountain Gear, it was affordable too. Let's face it, one of the attractions of the sport is the wide range of incomes that can participate. Brands need to remember to keep it that way while production heads over seas for most of the high ticket items...

There's a reason why this jacket has remained unchanged for years. I've had mine for 6 years now and it is still my favorite. It breathes like a dream and fits great. I wear it for every winter activity I do from climbing to skiing. This jacket does not disappoint.

There's a reason why this jacket has remained unchanged for years... it's pretty close to perfect. I wear this jacket everywhere doing just about anything. The fit is good, the breathability is awesome, and it looks great. If I had one complaint, it's that it doesn't fit over a helmet very nicely, you can do it, but it's tight.

This jacket is really sweet. I got a large and i am a large person so the fit is very true. I have worn it skiing a few times and i wish i had gotten a larger size so i could layer underneath. The jacket is warmer then i expected from a softshell. Arcteryx makes the greatest stuff hands down!

I have had this jacket for a few years and it has been the most versatle jacket I have owned. I purchased it mainly for ice climbing but also wear it snowboarding, and for most any time I hit the trail. It fits really well due to being very stretchya and light weight. Has a slimer fit and long enough arms for long reaches with out ridding up. I usually layer with a wind stopper vest if it is colder and really windy or a lite hard shell if it is really wet. Hood is great for helmeted activities, adjusts down when not wearing one.

The jacket appears to the rather thin and you may have doubts about it's durability but neither are a problem. I've had mine for a few years now and used it for everything from 5 day mountineering trips to wearing it around town. It stretches, breaths well, is weather resistant, very durable and just the right amount of insulation to wear while hiking with a pack on. Throw it in the wash and then wear it into town. When it hits below freezing you will need to layer over it to keep warm. Excellent piece.

This is the best jacket that I have ever owned. It will keep you dry in all but the largest downpours, it fits great, and it is actually warmer than it would appear. I would highly recommend the hooded version. My only complaint is that the cuffs on the sleeves are a little tight.
