Comments about Arcteryx Theta SV Jacket - Men's:

I bought this jacket to replace my Beta SL. I needed something with a longer cut and greater durability.

The fit is what I expected. It's not a very trim jacket so it has a decent amount of room for other layers underneath it. I bought a medium and I'm 6'0" @ 165 pounds. I would like the jacket to be a little more slim but for the most part it fits well.

The Theta SV is a heavy duty jacket. I was surprised that it wasn't as heavy as my older gore-tex jacket but still felt durable. I've only had my jacket for about a month now but I don't expect to see any issues with the durability of this jacket. The interior is very nice and you can tell Arc'teryx chose excellent materials when making this jacket. One little complaint I have is the gore-tex proshell is pretty stiff so it doesn't pack well. This may be because my jacket is still very new.

This jacket is feature rich and I find the extra pockets helpful. The velcro straps for the wrists are a big improvement over the Beta SL jacket that I have. They are much thicker and more durable. I like that the hood can be zipped up into the collar.

Unfortunately the hood is hard to zip up while you're wearing the jacket and have a pack on. This may be asking for a lot, but I just thought I'd mention that it's not a trivial matter to roll up your hood and zip it up. If the jacket is off then it's no problem.

Trust me, there will be times when you're wearing the hood and you take it off only to realize the hood is gigantic and in you're way. The only way to get it out of your way is to zip it up, which isn't that easy.

Another small gripe about the collar is that it sits very high. The collar has to sit high b/c it needs to be large enough to handle the very large hood. This doesn't really bother me but I can see it being annoying to some people.

This brings me to my biggest gripe, I haven't had an Arc'teryx jacket with a hood that I like. My wife also struggles to adjust it to fit. I think if I were wearing a helmet it would help, but for normal day use the hood is huge. I tried playing with the adjustments but like most Arc'teryx products it seems a little complicated. As I mentioned the hood can get in your way even when it's not on your head. It can block your peripheral vision, which shows you how big it is! Regardless I wouldn't let this deter you from this amazing jacket.

Finally, I'd like to make one suggestion. I bought the titanium color which I find very cool. During my trip in Scotland I found that the color is very easy to get dirty. I'm going to wash it soon to see if the weird marks will come out but I wanted to make note of this.

All in all my complaints are small and nit picky and are more geared towards the design of the jacket rather than the build. I think this jacket will last me a long time and is a good investment. I don't know how this compares to the Alpha SV but I've been impressed by the overall quality of this jacket.
