Could be better

I like the fit and feel of this helmet. However, I have had 3 of the helmets crack (twice replaced by reseller), one in the back and one along both rivets in at the rear. The cracks were not the result of impact, but from being torqued within my backpack. I am also unimpressed with the chin strap. It is just a poor design, and it seems to loosen regularly. I finally wrapped some tape around it to keep it in place. Other helmets I've used seem to be made of less brittle plastic and do not crack.
This is the only Black Diamond gear that I have ever been disappointed with--hope they improve the design.

I bought this helmet because I was looking for a good helmet to start out with. This helmet feels like it would break pretty easily. This helmet will be sitting home when I go to the mountains that's for sure. Spend the extra $$ and get yourself a sturdier helmet.

I have a reasonably large head, but certainly not gigantic! Size 'L' in most motorcycle helmets - not even XL! And this BD bucket just hurts. It squeezes my head in four corners, almost like I'm wearing a box turned at 45 degrees. After about 45 minutes, it's completely intolerable. My new Petzl works a lot better. Otherwise it's a fine helmet and seems to please the many people who borrow it from me!

Once you put it on--- it stays put. Haven't had any close calls yet so I have no comment on surviability. I have never had any problems with any Black Diamond product I've purchased.

Good protection

I've got to admit that I'm not one whom care to wear a helmet. However I do value my life and prefer to be safe while doing milti-pitch climbs.

I have noticed the field of vision is not hampered as with some, while sitting on ones head better than a ball cut in half.

Ventilation is acceptable, while still allowing for headlamp attachment for those late afternoon summits where one is either rapping off in the dusk or walking off in the dark.

It is my personal favorite helment, as with many other climbers out there.
