I haven't had the chance to use my recently purchased Eldorado yet but I did set it up indoors and can make a couple of comparisons with my previous Eldorado (1997). (1) The spec sheet says that the current version weighs in at 4lbs 8 oz whereas the old one was rated at 4lbs 1 oz. That's a little disapointing but not a deal breaker. The fabric seems a little different, perhaps more rugged or waterproof, so that may be the explanation. (2) The new version has plastic twist retainers to keep the poles in place whereas the older version used velcro strips. I'm thinking that the new version is probably an improvement as the strips where a pain to work and didn't seem to provide enough strength to keep the poles in place during storms. Other than that, the new tent seems the same as the old - a basic but effective lightweight 4 (or 5) season shelter for 2.
