These work great! Thick rubber protects well, especially for shipping gear. Though you'll need more than one for a pair of ice picks, don't bother with any extras because, unlike individual end-caps, they're almost impossible to lose. Cons: they weigh a few grams; tend to stretch out a little bit with constant on/off use; & over time, UV rays will eventually begin to deteriorate the rubber material. Also, (I don't know how concerned you are about the trade deficit, but) these are another[...]product.

The guards work really well on the shovel tool, but not so well on the hammer tool. I am probably going to cut that part off and use some velcro to attach it. Otherwise, a pretty good value. Doesn't get stiff in cold weather, like the hose I used to use. :)
Definitely beats tearing holes in gear

Protect the rest of you gear in your duffle when you throw it around/fly. The hole your axe would carve out of your backpack/sleeping bag is worth protecting with the extra money.

A simple protective cover (made in China) for your ice axe. Allows you to most importantly protect all the other items (pack, etc.) around your ice axe. Best for transport to/from your starting point or drop off point at the trailhead, then you can remove the cover and leave it in your car. One size fits all - fits my BD axes great, although its not custom molded. Not sure about how long this will last, but a relatively cheap price - so buy a couple.

pretty much all you could ask for, I've used it on my rambo comp 2s, air tech racing, and raven axes, fits on them all. great for when you're being heli'd in.
