I bought these pants to use as lightweight packable rain gear for hiking and backpacking and they definitely fit that description. I specifically chose the Marmot Precip pants over other similar rain pants from other manufacturers because they are available in a long inseam. I wear 32" waist x 34" inseam casual pants and the Precip pants in size medium long fit me very well without having to cinch the waistband drawcord much at all. Marmot claims its Dry-Touch Technology in the Precip waterproof/breathable coating feels soft and dry next to the skin, but I think that's a little bit of a stretch. I expect I will wear the pants over hiking shorts - and bare legs - in the event of a warm summer rainstorm (it's winter here, now) but the pants definitely feel more comfortable with silkweight long underwear underneath. The only other drawback to these pants is the lack of a zip fly for 'convenience'. I realize this would add a modest amount of weight and expense and reduce the packability a bit and most other pants in this category do not have a fly, but it would make the pants almost perfect. Another brand had a zip fly, but not a long inseam so I opted for the latter. That said, I would definitely recommend these pants for lightweight packable raingear (I also own a Precip jacket which I am very happy with.)

The drawstring was very long and didn´t have a way to secure it tight except to tie it in a knot. Besides that they are great pants. Big fan of the marmot brand. Highly recommend the precip jacket by marmot
