Very light jacket; go up a size if you have a paunch or want thick layers beneath the jacket; it should be ideal under a shell in bad weather. I live in the deep South so just the Phantom alone is plenty down to 20 degrees F or so.
I XC and backcounty in the Rockies, it is my new emergency backup replacing a wonderful Moonstone down product

You can't beat this jacket's warmth-to-weight ratio. Perfect for backpacking in cold weather. It packs down to a softball in the included stuff sack and the 800-fill down is incredibly warm. Super easy-pull zippers allow one-hand operation, even with mittens on. Perfect collar height keeps cold off your neck, too, but it would be nice if it had a drawstring to cinch it tight. My only worry is durability b/c the ripstop nylon shell feels a bit flimsy, but I think that's just my perception b/c it's so lightweight. If it's like other Mtn Hardwear products, it will last a very long time.

Very light. Very warm. My XL fits great with the waist drawstring tightened a bit. The adjustable fit is really nice. Use it some for various kinds of skieing.On motorcycles too.Wish it was made in the USA,tho.

This is fantastically warm, amazingly light, and compacts to next to nothing when stuffed into its (included) sack for storage in your pack. It's cut short so that it doesn't interfere with your climbing harness, but I wish MH had made it about 2 inches longer in the back- it is a little short there and may ride up a bit when leaning over. Otherwise the perfect down jacket .
