Product Details
Description:
Spend more time carving turns and less time warming up in the lodge with Mountain Hardwear's insulated Radiance Jacket, a pre-wired jacket using the Ardica Moshi Power System battery and Technology Connector (both additional) that not only heats your core, but can charge your iPod, phone or other USB devices. With the addition of the battery, the jacket's 3 temperature settings are enabled to provide up to 8.6 hours of on-demand heat to your chest and back via 3 heat panels, all with the touch of a glove-friendly button on the left chest. A lightweight layer of Thermic Micro insulation holds heat close. Men's version is the Refugium.

Features:

  • Neutralize cold temps with this insulated jacket that utilizes the optional Ardica Moshi Power System battery for custom, 3-level heat output that lasts up to 8.6 hours and can be fully charged in 3 hours - be sure to select your jacket with the battery to enjoy this feature.
  • Power your iPod, phone, GPS, or other USB-capable device with the jacket's USB port, which connects to the power system's USB Technology Connector (sold separately under sku 114893)
  • Hold heat close to your core thanks to durable & compressible Thermic Micro insulation
  • You won't feel like you're hauling batteries around - the thin, light array is flexible and conforms to your back so you feel comfortable, even when you're working hard
  • Keep your hands toasty warm in the fleece-lined hand pockets - heat setting on the upper left chest is easily operated with gloves on; interior zip pocket stores your keys or ID
  • Prevent chafing at the neck with the micro-chamois lined chin guard
  • Be sure to select the jacket with the Ardica Moshi Power System battery to get the full benefit of the included heating system, or buy additional batteries with sku 114938.
  • Purchase the optional USB Technology Connector with sku 114893: power your phone, iPod & other USB devices

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Radiance Jacket - Women's:

The jacket is great, but the cover on the battery pack is peeling off after only one charge. [...] Jury is still out on how it will work in very cold conditions, as we are having a warm winter here in Juneau, AK.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Radiance Jacket - Women's:

I think this jacket will be great when the new charger the company promised arrives. The one the sent didn't stay in the plug so the jacket barely charged. Also, once, it turned on by iteself and burned out what charge it had. When it worked, it was great skiing in the cold, windy summit of Killington.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Radiance Jacket - Women's:

"This review is based on my testing of the Men's Refugium Jacket, which has the same powered system."
I felt the need to check out this new Jacket because it is unique and a brand new technology. I found that it does everything Mountain Hardwear and Ardica promise and does it well. The jacket looks OK and fit me comfortably in my normal size medium. My wife Karn tried the Radiance on, it fit her fine in a medium which is here regular size. I liked the lighter weight Taffeta Shell material as it will layer easily and comfortably under a rainshell when it's wet out or in extreme conditions. The mid-weight Thermic insulation will keep you warm in many situations without even using the heat feature.
Where it shines is the battery/heating technology. I plugged it in for a 4 hour charge then ran it on each heat setting. On the High setting the jacket reached a peak temperature of 138 degrees Fahrenheit and lasted for 3.5 hours. I tried it on while it was on high and pretty quickly I was cooking. This would be great for someone with Reynaud's or if you were really cold and needed to rewarm. I cannot imagine that you would use it on high for any extended period of time. On Low it ran for over 8 hours at a temperature in the low 80's, this would be ideal for light activities in cold climates. On the medium setting it ran over 7 hours in the mid to upper 80's which I think would warm most people in very cold climates even when inactive, say belaying or at an outdoor event.

I wouldn't hesitate to wear this at the ski hill, sporting event, ice park or around town. The battery pack is barely noticeable as it's small, light and flexible. When placed in the dedicated pouch on the upper back, I could hardly tell it was there. The heat level is easy to adjust with the built in control panel on the chest. A pack did not seem to get in the way of the control panel either. The heating elements are wire-thin yet integrated well with the jacket construction for toughness.

The real test was taking this outside in the first snowstorm of the season. I cranked it to medium and felt the heat rise. Even standing in the chilly afternoon with wind & snow, I felt adequately warm with my normal work clothes and the jacket zipped up. Now, I could have stayed out there for the nearly 8 hours and this jacket would have kept me warm, but I had other work to do.

I can personally endorse this jacket and the battery pack – it's comfortable, warm and does what it says it will. Enjoy!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Radiance Jacket - Women's:

Fabulous jacket for very cold skiing with a shell. Even by itself it can ward off the cold, and by cold we are talking -20's. I got this jacket for the simple reason, tired of being cold, and Mountain hardwear Radiance does it great.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Radiance Jacket - Women's:

I have used this jacket, of late, daily. Our temps have been in the single digits and it heats up quickly. I love the technology and find this light weight jacket wonderful. The power pack and filaments are non-noticeable. When I turn on the power to high - this jacket hits warms in a matter of minutes (2 minutes to be exact). At a recent football game, I could maintain a consistent warmth. I use this jacket over a base layer and play with the temp control at will. It is a great piece and so techy ya gotta love it.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Radiance Jacket - Women's:

I so wanted to love this jacket but it really lacks any styling. It's baggy and loose fitting, highly unattractive details. Maybe it would work in a small size as an under layer. I don't recommend.
