Perfect layering piece - team up with a thermal & a shell & you have the perfect combo. Some have commented on this vest being too short, but I love the cut & it keeps free of waist belts etc. Nice high collar for blocking out the wind, so leave your neck warmer at home. Vests don't get any better & the usual Mountain Hardware quality through & through.

I bought this vest as a gift. It's supposed to be used on hiking trips, but it's so versatile and great looking the receiver of the gift wears it constantly!!! The materials are fine and the cut is superb. I bought a large and it is true to size. The shoulder width and armholes are cut so perfectly that it drapes beautifully on a man's upper body. Well done!

As an old climber and backpacker (58 yrs old and countinng), my old pair of Vasque Ascenders and this vest have kept me warm on many southern climbs.

I already own the windstopper tech jacket, but the vest is a size smaller than the jacket for some odd reason. Overall a great product except for the strange sizing. I love the lightweight, thin layer of fleece, combined with windstopper to provide breathable warmth.

stops the wind

Looks great. stops the wind, I'm 6'02" and wish it was a little longer for more protection. withh it layered under a shell, its so versatile and looks so good that I use just that combo for Boston trip at 20 degrees and Sandiego with sea breeze or rare downpour.

Mountain Hardwear makes well designed, indestructable products. This is no exception. The fleece is soft to the touch but hard on wind. Wind can't get through. The mesh like interior helps wick moisture from your back while wearing a pack. It fits perfectly, snug enough for warmth but easy on movement. Every zipper has a pull for ease of use. Both interior and exterior chest pockets are handy while hand warmer pockets do their thing. The front of the vest seems to have an added thin layer for extra protection/warmth while the drawstring closure at the waist keeps wind from chilling you from the baffles. It resists a fair amount of moisture so light rain and snow is no problem.

This works great under a shell in winter activities. Because there are no sleeves, it is lighter for backpacking but still keeps you warm. A shell simply isn't needed unless the wet stuff is really coming down. If you really need the whole package, the jacket is also great, with solid reinforcements where you need it and a few more ounces in weight.

If you need great wind/warmth performance, classic good looks, comfortable easy to wear fit, and something you can hand down to your newborn when they hit college, this is the vest for you.
