Comments about Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Men's:

this is my fall/winter/early spring outer shell. while on a recent AT outing, the temps were mid 30's, 20-30mph winds and it rained 1 1/2 inches that day. i paired this with a mid weight zip neck, rain pants. temperature was easily regulated with the pit zips. Some OR jackets have the pits zip run down to the hem. allowing you to blouse the front of the jacket over your hipbelt and not ride under the belt. it provides additional ventilation in this configuration.
the qulaity is what you expect from OR. It is slighly heavier than my ultra light rain jacket but this was my intent. I haventsnagged it on anything substantial but it appears that it will hold up well. there was very minor interior moisture on this day however I sweat like a river. very satisfied wit this purchase, especially with the price mark down.

Comments about Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Men's:

Although I find it staggering they can charge so much for these things and in the name of light weight, I really love this. It's very light weight (incl the zips) and very compactable. It's certainly designed for active pursuits from the many features described in the ad.

Comments about Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Men's:

Very nice jacket, well made, looks good....BUT the sizing is really weird. I'm 5'7", 135lbs. I have several size small jackets and parkas, hard shell, soft shell, fleece, from several different manufacturers including 3 from Outdoor Research.
But this one is sized strangely. It's MUCH too long. It's a jacket, not a parka but drops dowm well below my butt in back. It's a size small but the sleeves leave only a half inch of my finger uncovered. Fits ok in the shoulders and chest but is a bit tight across the back. seems to be sized for a slim 6 footer with no lats.

Comments about Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Men's:

Bought this for my 19 year old son. He loves it. Pit zips to waist were great on his recent backpacking trip in rainy weather to Upper Priest Lake. Great Goretex Pro Shell for a reasonable price.

Comments about Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Men's:

Well worth the money. The cut is perfect, not to short in the front, covers my waist, and a bit longer in the back, covering my butt, which is actually getting harder to find in today's "lightweight" phenomina, I notice alot of jackets are cut to short, without any features, sometimes not even pitzips, all in the name of lightweight. Dont get me wrong, I count ounces like everyone else, but I'll take function for a few ounces more any day. I Love the HUGE pit zips, makes for a very breatheable Goretex jacket. The new ProShell material is excellent, it feels drier inside, no sticky/clamy feeling while out in a downpour doing strenous work. It's also quiter and lighter than my previous Goretex jackets. Waterproofness and durablity seems great, but I cant really coment about it to much as I've only had this jacket for a couple weeks. The craftmanship/stitching/seams looks really good. Tons of features, 2 chest pockets that actually work as hand pockets, 2 inside chest pockets w/ earphone slot, a huge hood that is easily adjustable, like I've mentioned, huge pit zips that go all the way down to your waist, which aids not only in breatheability but also in wearing the waistbelt on your backpack, which you can route through the side zips so that your jacket isnt all bunched-up, again adding comfort and breatheability. The jacket is also able to be adjusted in the back via a drawcord, so you can cinch it around your butt in a downpour, and, because of the pit zips that go down to your waist, the drawcord DOESNT go around the whole jacket, so it CANT cinch up the front of your jacket, making it to short, at the same time as you cinch up your backside. Other than all that, I'd also say it's a very beatiful jacket, the color scheme is nice (I got Black/Grey), it's nice at least it isnt solid black, which seems to be your only choice alot of times if you dont want to wear the bright colors. I have been looking for a new Goretex jacket for the last couple months, I've ordered and returned alot of jackets lately, and my search has ended with the OR Mentor. I was deciding between it and the Arcteryx Alpha SV recently, and I decided to check out the OR jacket first, because of the price difference. Both jackets use the same materials, and both looked very well made, but I would say the OR jacket has more features, and better color scheme. I'm sure this OR jacket would be priced the same as the Arcteryx jackets if it was made here in N. America. But, like I said, the jacket seems really well made, and hopefully just as durable as our N.America made jackets. Dont get me wrong, I try and support N.American made gear when I can, but I was saving [$], by purchasing this jacket on sale for [$], compared to the Arcteryx jacket which sells for [$] (if I decided to order it). I think I made the right decision, the OR Mentor jackets seems perfect!

Bought this after a lot of research. Awesome bit of kit that is just as good - if not better - than the higher priced jackets by other's. Does well in the winter in the Chugach!

Comments about Outdoor Research Mentor Jacket - Men's:

This jacket is lightweight, technical, and waterproof. I ordered one size up so I can layer underneath. This jacket has a generous fit rather than a slim fit. It's ready for long ski days or any wet weather event.
