Comments about Petzl Vasak Crampon:

I recently bought these crampons to climb Rainier. I used them last week on a 4 day climb on the Emmons Glacier and thought they were great. My only complaint (and this was probably something I should have checked on before buying) was that the crampons didn't fit the heel of my Nepal EVO's. They seemed to be made more for plastic boots, or maybe the heel was just too narrow. A guide I was climbing with was able to rig the crampons to fit my boots and they were perfect after that. There are four styles to the Vasak Crampon and I bought the Flexlock. I'm thinking another style might have worked better with my boots. I'm new to mountaineering, so I'm still learning about gear. Once we got the crampons fitted to my boot, I felt very secure on the snow and ice and had a great climb.

Great Crampons
By R from Fairbanks, AK on 11/10/2008

Comments about Petzl Vasak Crampon:

I own a pair of the Leverlock version. Mostly I use them with a pair of Asolo midwieght leather hiking boots. I put quite a few miles on these crampons this summer on glaciers in Wrangell-St. Elias.

They worked great! Just be careful to size them to your boots, then snug 'em up nice and tight on the ice. They won't rattle around, loosen up, or slide at all. They performed well on flat and inclined ice, and all right front-pointing up short (3-5 foot) vertical ice, but the boots have too much flex for that anyways.

The steel points held up really well over short sections of rock, they're nice and durable. All in all a great crampon.
