This hat does provide protection from the wind. It is not as thick as my North Face fleece beeny which tends to get too warm with any activity. This hat is lightweight, packs down to next to nothing and is great for moderate activity. The bungy cord tie tends to hang up in my coat zippers.
I notice this is the hat I reach for most often.

This was a gift for my hubby! He used the hat on a recent ski trip to Colorado. He enjoyed the powder as much as he enjoyed having a lid to block the wind. This hat is a must for an active person who loves snow sports.
