Product Details
Description:
Adhering to the weight-reducing nature of fast and light adventuring Therm-a-Rest provides the NeoAir, the lightest 3-season air mattress that packs down as small as a 1-liter bottle. Sleep better with internal baffling that minimizes the movement of air, thus reducing your shifting. Therm-a-Rest's patent-pending R2 barrier reflects heat back to your body and cold back to the ground - making the NeoAir 3-times warmer than other uninsulated air mattresses. This product was selected for the Outside Magazine 2009 Buyer's Guide. f09back stockingstuffer

Features:

  • For your weight- and space-conscious trips, this ultra light air mattress utilizes proprietary AirTight coatings for the lightest possible construction, and rolls up as small as a 1-liter water bottle for compact storage
  • Similar to how a space blanket works, the patent-pending R2 barrier reduces thermal radiation as it reflects body heat back to you and cold back to the ground giving you an R-value on par to that of foam- or synthetic- insulated pads
  • Reduce air movement that causes you to shift on top of the mattress as a multitude of airtight fabric cells and internal baffling eliminates air instability
  • Summer 2009

Comments about Cascade Designs Inc NeoAir Sleeping Pad:

I've owned and used close to a dozen sleeping pads ranging from foam to self inflating foam of various stripes and even an Exped DownMat. The NeoAir is my new favorite because of its combination of comfort, light weight, and compact packing. It is 5 ounces lighter than a similar sized RidgeRest and way more comfortable. It is more comfortable than my ExPed DownMat, half the weight, and much easier to blow up. I've yet to use it on snow or ice and suspect I'd want to beef up the R-factor by combining it with a RidgeRest or other similar foam pad. Even with a RidgeRest, the weight would be similar to my Exped and similar in warmth.

Comments about Cascade Designs Inc NeoAir Sleeping Pad:

This is an amazing product. It is the same weight and same insulating value as the green Thermarest Ridgerest non-inflatable foam pad but it rolls up to about the size of a bicycling water bottle so you can easily carry it inside a soft sided pack or even a fanny pack. It is also a lot more comfortable especially for a side sleeper like myself. However, as with many ultralight items it has some limitations. It is made of SilNylon which nothing sticks to, so it requires a special repair kit. Also SilNylon burns quite easily so you need to be very careful about open flames with this sleepingmat. Oddly, the mat is noisy. As another reviewer accurately described, it sounds like you are sleeping on a bag of potato chips. Finally, should the mat deflate the repair kit is not an instant fix, so if you are cold weather camping, you will need some alternative for the rest of the night.

Comments about Cascade Designs Inc NeoAir Sleeping Pad:

A lightweight must for sleep comfort on the trail. The medium was large enough that at 6'2" i never struggled to stay on it.

Comments about Cascade Designs Inc NeoAir Sleeping Pad:

This sleeping pad is definitely worth the money. It is amazingly warm, and I feel like royalty sleeping on it in the wilderness. The only bad part is that even though it is self-inflating, it only self inflates to a certain extent and the rest must be blown (about 8-10 breaths). This could be a problem in very cold weather, as you don't want any moisture inside it. It packs down very small, easy to bring on a backpacking trip. The regular size is long but narrow (not a problem for me, but if you like extra wiggle room, opt for a larger size).

Service & Delivery comments:

Service was great.

Comments about Cascade Designs Inc NeoAir Sleeping Pad:

I bought this pad to lighten my pack and to minimize space used. It definitely is much lighter and packs much smaller than my Thermarest LE that has served me well for years. The Neoair is not a self inflating pad and requires you to blow it up which can take some time and effort. The Neoair is comfortable with the exception of the crinkling noise it makes like an empty chip bag. Time will only tell if it holds up as well as the heavier and bulkier self inflating pads. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to go minimal, but still sleep with comfort.
