Used the 10 x 10 tarp as our primary shelter for a 10 day backpacking trip in the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico in July 06. Camped from 5,000 to 8,000 elevations, a few solid rainstorms, nothing extreme. Tarp set up well with 2 staffs, did its job. We used a second ultralight tarp to close off one end for windblown rain protection. Would not recommend for first time campers simply because this is as basic as a shelter can be. Well designed for its purpose, held up very well.

A whiz to set up using your hiking pole

Pros:

Catenary cut, Easy to set up, Large area covered, Wicks water well

Cons:

Delicate, delicate sil nylon, Tears easily

Best Uses:

As a porch for your tent, Backpacking, Day trip, Hiking

An excellent choice used either as a sleeping shelter or as a cooking and eating shelter. Being able to set up with your treking poles means that you don't need to find two suitable trees to use for setting up the tarp.
