Thank you Black Diamond for making a serious short gaiter. I routinely hike off-trail on volcanic scree among cactus and other prickly stuff. The rubberized instep strap stands up to rough rock underfoot and the Cordura tops deflect brushy-thorny-clingy ankle-biters. Most other low gaiters would shred in a few wearings.
