I bought these gaitors to use on and off trail in up to 6 inches of snow. I would give them the higher rating except for the fact that the elastic draw string that hooks around the bottom of the shoe is located too far toward the back of the heel. Unlike the illustration in the catalog that shows the string located where it should be, it's actually located about mid-heel which makes it have to stretch forward to get in front of the heel. As a result, it comes off quite easily. This could be a sizing problem. Their sizing chart showed that my shoe size (11) should use a large size gaitor. Maybe an extra large would have fit better.I also don't like the upside-down toe hook. You have to hook it in first, then wrap the gaitor around your leg. If you got the hook on the wrong lace, you have to take the gaitor off to re-adjust the hook.If [...]would fix these two flaws the gaitors would be near perfect.
I started the Appalachian trail with a new pair Trail Gaitors. I finished, 158 days later with the same pair, over 2,174.6 miles. I wore a hole on the instep side of both gaitors. I am purchasing a new pair today. Great product!
