I'm a biologist, in the field every day. I needed tough gaiters to keep dirt and debris from my boots and to protect my lower legs from cactus spines. Crocs do the job.
My dad and all my brothers have used this type of gaiter for years. I finally upgraded my old gaiters and am very happy I did so. I never think of a gaiter as breathable or not-breathable, but I noticed a marked difference with this one vs. my old non-goretex gaiters. I thought the XL seems to be just barely fit my size 12 Danner boot. If your any smaller or have a smallish boot get a Large.
They not only look great, they keep you dry and comfortable. They are light weight. They work in rain and deep snow.
I use the gaiters everyday that I am in heavy brush or ivy. I am a land surveyor and I need strong durable protection while in the field.
Excellent gaiters, like the height of the gaiter. Excellent for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
Met expectations. I wear size 13 boot, so XXL felt big, but I bought to wear with plastic ice climbing boots as well. Was definitely warm during hiking/snowshoe since the heat from boots did not breathe/ventilate well upward. They were also big around legs with only two thin pant layers on. I liked that they stayed on securely, and definitely kept the snow off the boots & legs.
Heavy duty velcro, snap buckle, arch strap are all super tough. Multiple heavy bushwacking trips havn't made a scratch. Well into their 5th season. Water proof, breathable uppers, even work when frozen over night.
perfoms well under adverse conditions. keeps shoes dry.
Took these out for a 4-mile up-hill hike to 4K feet. Above the tree line, the snow was knee deep.
These puppies kept the snow out of my pants and played nicely with my instep crampons.
The Gortex(tm), use of buckles, hooks, and vinyl arch straps make these a premium product. I've been very dissatisfied with gaiters that only have strings to secure around the boot arch.
