This was a good gaiter without all the bells and whistles. I've used other gaiters with the opening side vents, and they were good also, but I see no need for things that can go wrong (i.e. zippers failing, leaks, etc.). This gaiter does what is supposed to do, keep you dry. If you get warm durring a climb, I found that folding them half way down helped regulate temp.

I hiked a few times in New Hampshire's White Mountains with these gaiters. They are tough and do exactly what they are supposed to. I would recommend this gaiter for general mountaineering.

Awesome - these gaiters keep the elements out for our 5 day expedition on Mt. Washington, known as the "world's worst weather."
