I,ve blown the stiching out over the achillies tendon area in 2 pair in 2 years. At 250+ dollars /pr. I expect a little better quality. Good thing MT. Gear stands behind what they sell.
I have broken both ankles and these are the very best, supportive boots I have ever owned. I can carry very large loads in my pack all day and not have sore arches or ankles
I use these boots during the winter to work on power poles. They have great traction and keep my feet dry and warm.
Some of us bought these instead of the Glaciers. Their like wearing your tennis shoes to work. Great ankle support.
I bought these about two months ago and have been trying desperately to break them in. 1-2 mile hikes every few days with the dog have BEGUN the process...but I still have a ways to go. Blisters and hotspots have resulted, but Im confident eventually they will do fine. Very water proof, right up to the snow collar (which is pretty high), nice flat toe area for a little rock climbing if need be. OVerall a very nice boot.

I use this boot for firefighting with the US Forest Service. It stands up to some pretty harsh conditions. Refrains from "hotfoot" as well as whites does. Has more ankle support than most other firefighting boots. Great buy!

I had been looking at getting a new pair of the regular Glaciers based on past experience but decided to go for these because of the added GTX membrane. I have been using my Glacier EVO GTX's now since just before Christmas of 2005 and these boots are bomb proof. If you have owned a pair of Glacier's or Makalu's, you know what I am talking about - if you haven't, what are you waiting for?
These boots fit great right from the get go, which is crucial because these boots will not break into your feet... your feet will break into the boots, so make sure you get the right fit.
I wanted a heavy duty boot that would serve me well for backpacking, but that would also allow me to venture vertically on rock and ice and for the price I couldn't be happier. I don't expect these to wear out anytime soon, but when they do, I will be looking for the same boot again.
I have used them for everything from backcountry snow shoeing and backpacking to mild ice climbing and mountaineering and they have been great.
I highly recommend them to anyone who has superpowers or wants to feel like they do.
