This is an outstanding shoe for what it is designed for - Day trail hikes. As a former Army Ranger, I now the importance of keeping your feet in top condition. This shoe fits the bill all way around. The Hedgehog provides excellent protection against the wet and the cold - assuming you don't step in over the ankles. This shoe also provides great comfort and traction.

When i first opened the box, i didn't now what to expect. After i tried them for 2 weeks or so, i loved them. My family has some land out in the Texas Hill Country, so i usually go on hikes up the "mountains" and sometimes hike and walk all day. These shoes worked like a charm.

I live at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The first day I bought these shoes, and hiked in them, they blew out. It took NF 6 months to get them back to me. Please don't buy this shoe, it certainly wouldn't pass my 30 day test.

Great Light Hiker, But Not for Running

Pros:
Comfortable, Non-slip sole, Stable

Day hikes, Everyday

This is a great light weight all-around shoe for anything from light day hikes to Saturday errands, but there is insufficient cushioning during running. The fit is a bit stiff out of the box, but it will break in quickly with 24 hours of use or less. The shoe is stable and well built. It could use a bit more cushioning for better comfort during long trail use, but a thicker sock may suffice.

I bought my first pair of North Face shoes on the Appalachian Trail somewhere in Tennessee, after a stint with a pair of Columbia's that left my feet feeling broken. About 800 miles later the soles were falling apart a little (expected) but they were still the most comfortable thing I had ever worn. I have since tried a few other brands of shoes including Montrail, and will never buy anything but The North face again, even for city use. I have logged thousands of miles on the trail and have never experienced a blister in a pair of North Face shoes.
