i'm out walking daily as a dog-walker. i'm on the street and the trails and these shoes keep me going! supportive, look good and they have a great tread that last longer than any nike on the shelf.
they run small so try on a pair to get your size.
ordered hardrocks from mountaingear.com. very comfortable and supportive shoe, with great cushion. order up half size, use them also as a mountain bike shoe as the sole is somewhat stiff.
I wore these shoes over two seasons of hard trail use in the Adirondack Mts. They were excellent the first season, definitely getting worn the second but still were ok. Excellent traction, fit, comfort. The downside was that the insole that came with the shoe wasn't adequate for me so I had to buy Superfeet. The other downside was not being waterproof at all.
thanks for all
I had worn Montrail shoes in the past and was satisfied with them. In 2007 I bought a pair to wear on a September thru-hike of the Long Trail in Vermont. They performed so well I now have 4 pair stored in the basement. I would recommend them for warm, wet weather. I find the fit snug and wear them with liner socks only. The benefit of only wearing liners is that they air dry quickly when they get wet. The pair I wore on the Long Trail showed very little wear.
I've worn this shoe two years in a row for the Bridger Ridge Run, a 20 mile trail run with 16,000 feet of verticle change. The run covers a lot of scree and very rocky surfaces. I haven't found a shoe I like better. I have three pairs socked away in my closet for fear it will be discontinued. It's beefy enough to handle accidentially kicking a rock at high speeds and stable enough on the downhills. I've heard people complain it's too heavy, but for rugged trail running I want a little armor for my feet.
This is my second pair of Hardrocks. I love them. Very durable and capable of handling the abuse I give them on the trail. These are my go to shoes when backpacking, trail running or just hiking.
Mountain Gear actually shipped me the wrong shoes the first time but after I contacted them, the correct pair were here in a matter of days. They arrived even before they received the ones I had returned. Excellent customer service.
I have used many pairs of Hardrocks. This year they are sized at least 1 size too small.
I won't buy them on the internet again.
Excellent service
This shoe fits my foot so well, it's like Montrail used my foot as the template for the design.
Fourth pair, fits a small volume foot well. Heel rubber can delam, but usually after I've retired the pair from running use.
The Hardrocks are a great long distant alternative to the traditional leather boot. The pronation correction is nice for those who need it and there is no real break in period even though they are fairly stiff. My only gripe would be that after one month the tread was in tough shape. These shoes are nice and sticky for bouldering or scrambles, but course textures like Southwest granite or other mean surfaces like canyon walls take a tole on the tread. Rather large chunks were taken out of the rubber after a 9 hour scramble up a granite mountain. I expect to get a year of solid use out of these shoes, but I can get the same with a pair of New Balance All-Terrains For [$] less [$]
For their weight, the Hardrocks are the most supportive, protective, durable and comfortable shoes for thru hiking.I wore them on the PCT in 04 andthey were awesome in every way.I used green superfeet with them and had almost zero blisters and no other foot problems. It took 3 pairs to go the distance ,which is better durability than most other shoes. The mesh helps them dry very quickly from all the water crossings.
I used two pairs of these shoes during a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. Each pair got over 800 miles, including the rocky Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Maine sections.
Stable platform for a lowtop shoe.
Very breatheable for hot and dry weather, and they don't hold water in wet weather.
Lots of hikers used these shoes and swore by them if that isn't enough of an endorsement!
