Evolution can occur in leaps and bounds - as is the case with the waterproof, rock-climbing ready, sturdy Trango S EVO GTX mountaineering boots from La Sportiva which won Backpacker Magazine's Editors' Choice Award in 2004. While a breathable GORE-TEX lining keeps your feet dry from the outside in, your whole foot will be supported by the 3D Flex ankle that works in conjunction with your crampons when you're kicking steps or flat-footing your way across icy terrain.
  • Tread over unstable scree with the Vibram Mulaz crampon-compatible soles fitted out with Climbing Zone platforms - just in case your overland adventures turn vertical
  • Get front-pointing crampon support while remaining flexible from side to side for French flat-footing on packed snow or slush with the supportive 3D Flex ankle-hinge system
  • Keep your feet dry in waterproof Cordura uppers with antiacqua coated Lorica reinforcements over a waterproof GORE-TEX lining
  • Protect your feet and toes from rough brushes with rocks with the high rubber rand and sturdy nylon shank
  • Wear these boots for thousands of miles - the 7 mm Trailflex dual-density Micropore midsole keeps feet happy with footfall-cushioning stability
  • Average weight per pair: 2 lb 12 oz
    • Upper: nylon
      • Midsole: dual density micropore
        • Outsole: Vibram Mulaz
          • Shank: nylon

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

These are my favorite mountaineering boots any time it's not too cold. They hold semi-automatic crampons well, even on WI3 technical ice, flex in the right places but not the places where you need stability, and required no break in time. They haven't leaked so far and I've had them more than a year and taken them through lots of slushy now (use gaiters of course).
