Bright until lens get scratched(easily)

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Light is great when you first get it. Super bright and lightweight for a headlamp. But less than a summer of hiking and climbing and the light is barely 20% of its former self (Both LED and 1-watt bulb which means it's not a bulb issue). The lens scratches too easily and once it gets scratched the light output becomes really terrible. I certainly use my light but try not to abuse it. But just putting it in and out of packs and pockets has done in the lens. Bottom line: a great light that is really bright if you're willing to baby it(pack it in a sock) but the lens is big weakness.

This is a great headlamp. It has a very bright spot beam. I was surprised by the brightness, and I like the three led option too. The only thing is you have to push the power button half way to switch brightness (this is OK, but I little tricky).

I've had this light for a little over a year, and it has never let me down. It's been roadtripping, dayhiking, overnighters, and weeklong trips. The two bulb choices really help the battery life. I'm planning on buying another one so I can keep one in the pack and one the truck.

This is an ideal light to carry for emergencies and use on trails. Its light and easy to pack. The bright beam works well for following a trail or finding your way in close quarters. The lower intensity bulbs work well for rummaging in your pack or tent.

bright, but wish it was waterproof
By randyVerified Purchaser from RI on 1/31/2006
Pros:
Bright, no cord to short out
Cons:
case isn't waterproof

nice compact design, placing the batteries in the same unit as the bulb should fix the one problem I've had with my other headlamps and that is with the cord from the batterypack to the lamp shorting out from being bent too many times packing it. opening the case you can see that there's no gaskets and it looks like water entry might be a problem in the rain.
