Have not used that much yet. Seems fine and just what I wanted.
I bought one of these for my wife a few years ago. I always just brought a flashlight backpacking. After using hers to cut wood one night I was sold.
I had a Surfire G2, which puts out a tremendous amount of light, but the lithium batteries are expen$ive, and very short lived.
These headlamps will go thru probably a weeks worth of backpacking(or more) on the same batteries. Also the distance they will illuminate is really good.
We also live on the farm and use them for night and early morning chores.
[...] I bought 2 more in case something every happened to our other 2. Well worth the price!!
It's just a good, solid, no frills light.
I love the Moonlight, but the wire that goes from the battery pack to the light has very soft, thin strands inside it, and they break after about a year of use.
Worse, if I wear it under my mountain bike helmet even once, it breaks (had this happen with two separate Moonlights before I realized what caused it). The strands inside the wires just aren't strong enough to withstand being pressed between helmet and head.
When my Moonlights have broken, Black Diamond has replaced then without a question. But is that what we really want? What if it breaks while I'm climbing or backpacking?
I have three friends who bought Moonlights on my recommendation, and theirs all died, too. So now, even though I like the light, I don't recommend it. It is, long term, not a reliable product.
When the breaks occur, the wires seem intact from the outside, but the strands inside seem to have parted. If you twiddle with the wire and hold it just right, you get light. But having to keep both hands on the wire of my headlamp defeats the purpose.
I really wish Black Diamond would redesign this nifty little light, with a better wire. Then it would be perfect.
By the way, I baby my gear--things don't usually break for me.
When it works, the light output is great for camp chores, fixing the car, and reading in the tent. It's perfect for walking a well-marked trail. But it doesn't have enough throw for trail running or biking. Not really enough light for night climbing, scrambling, or anything where the route is hard to find--I do use it for those activities, but have had some hairy situations that would have been avoided if I'd had a stronger light.
As expected; a great product at a great price.
This is a great product I have used it for a year now and I think that this is a great product for anyone I am a boy scout and I highty suggest this product.
