I bought this as a replacement for one that decided to leave me behind on a cross country journey. sniff. Which goes to say it worked well enough for me. You can keep the rear battery pack warm under your cap yet let the light peak out under the brim on your forehead.

I test everything at home before I take it into the wilderness. I bought the lamp to put on my Ecrin Roc helmet but considering it packs into a ball about the size of my fist, I will probably use it as a back up light when camping. The things I like about the lamp, it folds flat against the forehead when not in use. The battery life on high is pretty good too, I turned it on a left it on until the batteries completely died. I am not sure about exact hours but it was a couple of days.
The only thing I don't like about the headlamp is it turns completely off when cycling between high and low. I don't know if this is supposed to be right or if it is a flaw but with the brightness and the battery life I can live with it.

great light not the most comfortable
By crowflyid from coeur d alene on 11/6/2007
Pros:
Adjustable Beam, Bright, Spare Bulb, Stable
Cons:
Bulky, Heavy, Must wear with a hat
Best Uses:
Cold weather night runs
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This light has great illumination. The beam is stable enough for good runs. Both the light and the battery pack on the back of the head dig in and rub on both parts of the scull. It is perfect when combined with a running beanie so late fall and winter runs are optimal. I am sure there are better lights for running so I would not buy it again for that primary purpose.

It does it's job alright enough. Great battery life, it's bright enough. The build quality was a bit poor. I'm not sure how weatherproof these things are.

Just came back from a friend's cabin in Northern Maine. No electricity. Used candles and propane lamps. When first arrived it was already night time. The lamp was plenty bright enough. i have no idea how anyone could call this dim. The various brightness settings, especially the lowest was handy when moving around inside without disturbing others. I have not used it in the rain or hard conditions yet.

I just got the light so I can't comment on battery longevity and overall durability, but it is very well-built and the brightness adjustments are fantastic. The brightest setting is the most handy but for reading a book or to set the mood for some [*] downtime at the ole bivy site the dim settings are just the thing. Overall it's a great headlamp, it looks and feels good in the hand, balances well on the head and provides enough light to set up a rappel or change a flat tire. What more do you need?

Great light but the screw over the battery pack seemed to strip and came off under my hood and I almosl lost the batteries!

I'll keep a rubber band or something as a safety catch.

I got this to replace a 3 LED original BD moonlight that was still going strong. Was impressed with how much brighter this was, and with the 3 brightness settings it's worked for climbing trips as well as skiing, but is not to bright for around camp. Keep one in my kit and one in the car foremergencies.

Very comfortable to wear. Weight is comfortably balanced front-to-back and side-to-side by having the battery pack in the back of the headlamp.
