I'm a climber and need gear as light as possible. I have needed a way to stabilize my camera but no way am I going to tote a tripod up a glacier. I haven't carried it into the field yet but the Gorillapod looks like all I have been wanting. It's very light, the moving parts are tight, and they form a tight enough radius to use with an ice axe or picket.

this product is ONLY for small digitals, if you have a regular size SLR or even a prosumer type camera (ie Canon G9), you'll need to purchase the Gorillapod SLR. It is a great product, just make sure you buy the correct tripod for the weight of your camera.

This tripod is great. I usually take photos while backpacking or climbing and there's never a flat space to prop a camera for a group shot. The tripod allows you to turn a rough sloping slab of rock into a perfect spot for your camera.

My boyfriend has been talking about wanting a tri-pod for a while and I was very excited about finding one [...] - we are outdoors a lot, (hiking, skiing, etc.) and sometimes it's just the two of us. It's hard to get a good pic when you are trying to set up on a rock or anything in nature for that matter. The Gorillapod rocks for that reason. It's not like traditional tri-pods (because it's so much easier to pack around) and it is easily stabilized by the jointed parts. You can even wrap it around a tree branch! He loves it too.

this gorillapod is awesome..ive showed to all of my friends. the possibilties are endless with it, its soo easy to use, and alot of fun. i wish i knew about it sooner. it works great for group shots when everyone wants to be included. its nice and light and i would recomend it to anyone that has a small digital camera. when you use it with a large camera, the camera is too top heavy and doesnt stay put when attaching it to a tree or fence

A great little tripod for a small to med digital camera. lightweight, versatile, great quick change mount. I leave the mount on my canon s2 Is and carry the tripod everywhere. This camera is at the edge of this tripod's weight limit. If left on the tripod for any length of time it will either settle or fall over but for low level macro photography and the occasionla group shot it is superb. I carry it with me all the time. I am considering getting the larger version for my DSLR and 35mm SLRs.

This nifty little tripod is a real nice product. It allows me to get into a few of the pics intead of 100 pics of my hiking partners and none of me. It's superlight - about the weight of a ball point pen, nice to carry deep into the backcountry or on a long thruhike where every once is important. Great versitility, where it can hang from a tree limb, or a hiking pole, or vertical rock face with a couple of groves to grab to. Not real sure about it's durability yet, because I've only had it on a couple of long extended hikes.

Cool gizmo!

Pros:
Compact, Easy to use, Fun, Lightweight
Bottom Line:

This is a sweet luxury if you enjoy taking lots of photos on your trips. It's lightweight, attaches to/balances on just about anything and takes up verly little space in a pack. I've only used mine two times so I am uncertain about it's durability. I'm sure if you are careful with it it will last a very long time...just like my really delicate, tiny camera has. I love this silly thing and am having a blast taking group photos with it. I also use it to take close up still shots as I can't stay steady enough to get clear shots using my hands as a tripod. So I use this and the self timer to get really nice macro shots. Great job Gorillapod!
