I'm not a hardcore climber or backpacker, but I will say I took the Bora 80 to Rome during a crazy downpour that flooded their subway system. With no subway and all the taxi cabs taken, that meant we had to walk 1-2 miles to our hotel in the rain. At the time, I had my laptop, gameboy, and very expensive Canon camera gear in there. When we got to the hotel room, we were all soaked, but the inside Bora 80 didn't have a drop of rain in it.

Outstanding product quality and a great pack overall. I wouldn't worry about the weight of the pack as that is more than offset by its comfort under load.

The Arcteryx packs are simply the best fitting packs I've found. The Bora 80 is ideally sized for a multi day mountaineering\backpacking adventure, yet it isn't so big that it lets you overpack. If you pack right, you'll keep 4-7 days of gear under 60 pounds and find this pack to be a comfortable ride. The stow pocket on the back easily holds up to 3L of water in a bladder bag while the sleeping bag compartment and ice axe holders make for easy packing.

The quality of this pack is outstanding. It appears that it will be able to handle years of abuse without a problem. It has plenty of room for trips ranging from a weekend to a week or more. I have only taken the pack on one overnight hike so far, but from what I experienced it was by far the most comfortable pack I have ever used. I had it in a light rain and there were no problems with water leaking into the pack. Although I have yet to take it on an extended hike, I am confidant that this pack will remain comfortable and stable even with a heavy load. The only complaint I have about this pack is the weight. It is a little heavier than I would like, but that is a small price to pay for the comfort and durability of this finely crafted pack.

This bag is excellent. I've carried 60+ pound loads for several 20 mile hikes. The weight balances well and the pack is probably the most comfortable that I've ever owned. I would definitely recommend this to all my friends.

Designed to use every feature, excpet maybe the ice axe holders (that's just me). Arc'teryx always goes over and beyond any expectations. If you are going on a week long trip, the large 5000 cu in will definitely get the job done.

It is simply the best pack you can own, you get what you pay for. The seamless padding and spectra nylon make this the most comfortable and durable pack you can get. When its adjusted properly, you don't notice the 65lbs. of gear on your hips. You'll love it.

Pricey, But Top of the Line
By Dan the Climbing ManVerified Purchaser from Colorado Springs, CO on 4/24/2006
Pros:
Large capacity, Very adjustable
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Hiking, International Traveling

Arc'teryx is by far one of the most quality providers of hiking gear, and it is clearly evident with the Bora 80 pack. While not particularly economic, it is very ergonomic and has plenty of space for week long trecks and 14er assents in the backcountry of Colorado. The hip belt and shoulder straps can easily be adjusted and feel comfortable even after a good 20 mile hike. The detacable top is also great for shorter trips when you have a more solid base camp. The material is also sturdy and holds up to abrasions and rocks. Other than the price, this pack is awesome.
