I had frostbite a couple times and once pretty bad so I require a warmer boot, with this boot my feet never got cold, ice climbing on Mt Washington in January I added a pair of smart wool socks and another pair of thick socks, my feet were actually sweating, My only real complaint with this boot is that it is very stiff, it feels like my other ice climbing boots once I put my crampons on, which is great for ice climbing, but brutal on a long approach.

This boot is seriously stout. A bit too stout for my intended purchase. I used them on the coldest day of ice climbing I've seen and they performed well on the ice. My feet were one pair of two that were warm all day (the other were double booted) They mate to my Black Diamond step-in crampons very well. I have slightly narrow feet and they fit very well. My only concern is that they have very little flex at the ankle (I know duh... mountaineering boot... but it was almost like a double boot) which makes for painful approaches and decents but relaxed and warm ice work. These boots are bullet proof though and for hard core high altitude (single boot) summits they are perfect. For my use I'm stepping down to the Nepal evo GTX for hopefully a bit more flex.

I researched this boot before buying and ordered 1 size larger per many suggestions. I'm glad I did as it fits perfect. Extremely comfortable snowshoeing and ice climbing.

Great buy on a boot that can be used for a variety of uses from ice to high mountain treks. It was suggested to buy a size larger, so I did and it fits great! I use BD Sabretooth crampons and Tubbs snowshoes with no problems.

Other reviews have called these boots too narrow...I thought that too, but once they pack in, they are really quite comfy. I have yet to ice climb in them, but after spending 12+ hours on cold day hikes breaking them in, I can say they are really going to be amazing. VERY WARM. Can't beat the price anywhere (also can't find them anywhere).

Had to squeeze into my street size (43) even in fairly thin socks and sent them back. Sizing up 2.5 Euro sizes seemed to work well for me. They fit well with a sock liner and Smartwool mountaineering socks. Haven't tried them out on ice yet. Also, had to get extender bars for the set of Grivel G-12s I had.

Service & Delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt. Product was undamaged even though the La Sportiva box didn't come through very well.

Didn't get to try them out due to narrow sizing. Was told that buying a larger size would probably not offer much relief. Italians must have narrow feet. Every Italian boot I've had runs narrow. These boots otherwise looked good and felt good. Too bad.

This boot is everything i was expecting it to be, warm, waterproof, stiff, and comfortable. They do take some breaking in but no more then usual. Accepting step-in crampons is a plus. If your looking for a warm winter boot that is stiff enough to do serious mountaineering as well as handle the hike in, look no further.

This is one great Ice Boot. It is very stiff though, so hiking on the flats can be a little uncomfortable. I have sat and belayed for 2+ hours at 0 degrees w/ mild discomfort. Boot is very warm, and highly weatherproof. One thing to mention is that it is extremely low volume in the toe box, the insoles should only be replaced w/ ultrathin aftermarket ones to avoid volume issues. Contrary to below review, all styles of crampons will fit perfectly on this boot, just a matter of fine tuning on the larger sizes. I use Grivel/Black Diamond crampons, and my friend has Charlet's, they all fit equally well. Amazing boot, great support and very warm. Buy it for very technical light weight alpine/ice use, you won't be dissapointed.

Solid and functional
By Fat FeetVerified Purchaser from DC on 1/31/2007
Pros:
Lightweight, Rugged
Cons:
Snug
Best Uses:
Ice climbing, Mountaineering, Winter hiking
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great overall boot for it's intended purpose. This is not a double boot - if you wear this to the summit at -30 you'll lose some toes. Good for wet cold conditions and 0+, if you keep moving. Very sensitive feel for a strong boot. Perfectly matched to new matic crampons (I use Sarken LLs), and should accept most automatics due to the narrow profile. The boot is a bit snug (D width and low volume), but better than climbing shoes or ski boots. Sizing is accurate.

Ice Boot ?
By Southfork regular from Cody, WY. on 12/27/2006
Pros:
Lightweight, Rugged, Weather Resistant
Cons:
crampons hard to fit
Best Uses:
Heavy Hiking Boot, Mountaineering

Boot hikes well with moderate to heavy loads, Climbs well. Warm in Moderate tempratures. I have only found one step in crampon that will fit this boot(Petzl M-10) Black Diamond,Grivel,Trango crampons will not fit properly in the welts. Boot would be good for early season/summer mountain trips when temps. are cool

A great boot

Best Uses:
Extreme Conditions, Ice climbing, Mountaineering

Thanks Mountain Gear for a great deal on this awesome boot. It fit perfectly right out of the box and I am very happy with it. A very warm and well insulated boot, it feels like a double plastic boot without some of the bulkiness. I used these boots today snowshoeing and hiking in deep snow in 10F and never felt cold. I highly recommend these boots.
