Recco system is a great backup for avalanche transcievers because it is a passive system (so you don't need to worry about batteries or such to fail). However it needs the rescuers to use a Recco detector during the search. So let others know you have a Recco reflector on you. Never attach the reflector to a helmet, glove or such because they might recover it while you're buried 100 yds. away.

when sking inbounds and avalanche conditions are severe, it is good to have the extra protection of the recco system. These reflectors easily applied to the boots, and have held up well so far.

The images that I have seen for this product are deceptive. The actual reflector unit appears to be smaller, narrower, and much more sleek. They come in pairs. I have attached a pair to the back of my boots, and to my son's and daughter's boots. They are quite flexible, with a strong adhesive backing. After finding a smooth area on the back side of each boot, I cleaned the area with alcohol. The reflectors went on easy and are firmly attached. I will be installing these on all of future boots. Definitely worth the price!

good idea but lacking practicality
By JasonVerified Purchaser from Northern Virginia on 1/10/2007
Pros:
Flexible, It comes with 2, Lightweight, Tiny
Cons:
Came off and was lost, Glue didnt hold, No stitch holes

I feel its a great idea and can be very useful, thats why I invested in them. But since their was no stitch holes to attach them to my clothes and the glue on them didn't hold they fell off and are now somewhere on the side of Mount Washington. They came with 2 of the recco's which were approx. 1inch but 1/4inch.

Handy backup to add to older gear...
By J.Verified Purchaser from Winfield, WV on 1/5/2007
Pros:
Easy To Set Up, Lightweight
Best Uses:
Back Country, Deep Powder, Extreme Conditions

Hopefully, I'll never have to see if these work...but they are a nice backup when out west.

I added them to some existing gear...and contacted Recco before placing them on the gear. Recco provided great feedback about placement, and were quick to respond to my questions.
