Excellent Technical Day Pack
By ATSkiJunkieVerified Reviewer from NJ on 11/24/2007
Pros:
Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Protective
Best Uses:
BackCountry Ski, Day Trips, Ski Mountaineering
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Bought this pack in the Italy last winter. It was a European version, but near identical. It's light with all the right features. Hydration pack design works 100%, although you have to supply your own bladder. Carries skis, poles, & tools very easily. Very durable. Used it to approach the Val Mezdi and Baldy chutes. Yes, it was even up Tucks this Spring too.

Only difference between this pack and the European version seems to be the lower side attachments for skis. Mine has hard plastic-covered gear loops, but this one looks more like a cinchable strap of thick webbing; and I would think be even better.

So I haven't exactly had a chance to strap my skis onto this Mammut pack and take a backcountry powder day in the Wasatch.... but this pack is the ticket. It's shape works well when you want your gear to stay out of your periphery, and the pockets are simple and effective. Most importantly, it will carry your skis without collapsing under their weight, and it doesn't need a heavy frame to do so. (Hey it fits climbing gear pretty well too!) I hunted far and wide to get this pack, trust me it's well worth it.
