I have to admit, I bought this for I thought it would be cute to wear at times instead of a beanie. A little different fashion statement. Too my surprise, it was warmer and covered my ears better in cold weather than my beanie. I received it right before a cold spell and it sure came in handy. The inside is completely lined with what looks and feels like a soft black flannel so it is not scratchy next to your head. This gives it extra warmth and blocked the cold and wind from my head and ears. The sides go down past my ears and keep them very warm. I have a friend from Bolivia and this style is a staple there and now I know why. I highly recommend this hat to keep your head and ears warm. I also like the purple heather color. [...]

Great hat! I switched to this one for the verstatilty. Neutral coloring is nice as is the material, as I'm a big wool fan though it's only half wool. I'm not sure about hemp. Put the ear flaps up and tie off if warm, pull it down and tie if cold, let it dangle in normal mode. It keeps your ears warmer at night than a traditional beanie.
