Excellent fit, soft to the touch. Comfortable over a wide temperature range (teens to about 50oF). Resists picking up body odor. Expensive but a good value when on sale.
It's Arc'teryx. 'Nuf said, 'natch.
My first one was in Black and I loved it so much that I jumped on the sale price for the Honeycomb. With the Honeycomb color, you can really see the tweedy effect which makes it gr8 for casual wear over a pair of jeans, etc.
As for function, it works great in all variations: on it's own, over a baselayer such as the Arc'teryx Rho LT (like I wore this past Saturday on the mountain during a freezing drizzle); under a shell, mmmmm, toasty warm; or just as a quick pullover for around the lodge/cabin/campsite, etc.
Wears like iron, is practically bulletproof, launders very well, is very warm, and layers nicely. My only gripes are that the sleeves are a bit too long, but better too long than too short, especially when you need to reach or extend. And of course, the price; that's why I jumped on the sale price. Then again, one could consider Arc'teryx products as "investment" pieces as they wear f-o-r-e-v-e-r.
If you like an athletic fit like the Rho LT top, buy this one in one size down. I'm in between Small and Medium and generally buy Medium in most Arc'teryx products. I own both sizes in this top, but I prefer the Small because it's a bit trimmer to the body and thus a little warmer too!
Highly recommended from this confirmed Arc'teryx addict.
Years of Mountain climbing and trekking have given me an appreciation for all Arcteryx gear. The Covert Collar Zip is a great casual top to wear at sea level around the homestead.
I feel more comfortable with a looser fit, which I think looks better also. Too bad, since the material and color are nice.
Not yet used due to warm season here in korea. Buy looks like it's very nice and happy to buy.
Took it skiing for a week. Didn't sleep in it but otherwise worked and looked great. Quality, no prolblem. Can't wait to use it sailing.
Terrific casual wear. Have owned the Blue ("Eclipse") only a few weeks. Most fleece looks bulky when new and pills like crazy, over time. But the Covert is trim-fitting (I'm borderline Medium-Large, and the Medium fits great), and the unique finish should keep it looking good. Only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars is that the actual garment is pretty much solid Slate Blue, not the "Tweedy", more dress-up look of the photograph. But it still looks very good. I wear it casually, and can't imagine wearing anything under it - incredibly comfortable and very warm. A Covert under an Arcteryx Gamma SV Jacket is perfect for the unstable winters in Ohio.
At first glance I thought it was a very well-styled wool sweater? Merino? Cashmere? What is that? Fleece-- Polartec Thermal Pro with an outside texture I've never seen before in fleece. I bought it on impulse. Had to have it. The cut is svelte. I can wear a T-shirt or long sleeve base layer under it and that's about it. However, it's fancy enough to wear out to dinner, functional enough to wear hiking or more, and it washes great. It's got subtle techie features that are reasonably functional-- a zipper for venting, an arm pocket (you could skip that one, Arcteryx) and a hem that goes down a little in the back-- nearly enough to be functional for bicycling. It moves well as you move. It doesn't "ride up." It is very very breathable. Possible "cons" would be... if you need the lightest and most compressible fleece, better wind resistence, then get something expressly engineered for either of those things. On the other hand, if you are forced to choose/carry one piece and you need it to go from the music halls of Buenos Aires to the Andean refugios of Patagonia......this one will do the trick, nicely.
I've given my boyfriend 3 Arcteryx items and all have been made with the highest quality. Each item has stood up to repeated wearings, a couple of them for years now, without the slightest look of wear.
