I am a soccer coach and all my players were jealous during a very cold game last week. These gloves could be a little warmer but make up for that by being small and not too bulky in my pack. Being tough as nails doesnt hurt either.
This is a good backpacking, mountaineering, cycling or spring skiing glove. Flexible, stretch soft-shell fabric offers moderate insulation and wind resistance, and is MUCH more durable than fleece. Leather palm and fingers also improve durability. I bought them a little big, which allows me to use them with a thin liner or under a glove shell.
Great glove to wear touring, but your hands may get cold. That's why I carry a pair of OR mittens that pop on right over.
[...] They're not the toughest gloves out there. But for breathability with still a decent degree of protection I haven't come across a better pair.
I have currently been climbing in the same pair for 2 years. They stay in my chest pocket until it is time to climb and then come out for the work. I have climbed spring routes in Colorado to cold winter routes in Wyoming to higher altitude routes in Ecuador. The only thing I add is a pair of poly liners under them. I recently bought a second pair because all good things must come to an end.
These gloves are warm for their weight when they are dry. They are comfortable and tough. I would not recommend them for wet conditions when it's cold. Mine got wet during a recent trip in the Adirondacks and it took 2 days to dry them out.
