No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Personally, I like beanies that don't slowly creep up your head over time, and this one does just that. The elastic, or lack thereof, doesn't keep it firmly on your head. Also, it is made of very thin material and wind goes right through it. Might be great for under a helmet, or a cool morning bouldering, but not what I was looking for.
There are much better beanies out there for about the same price that are both stylish, and great for recreational use.

I am allergic to wool and anything man-made. With the all-cotton, I can wear it for prolonged periods of time w/out my ears and forehead itching.
I slip it under another beanie during cold, windy weather.
