This hat works great. I purchased it to keep me cooler in the sun and it definately helps keep the sun of my head. Sheds water great as well. It does hold water inside in an emergency but I'm not to sure if you could boil water in it I haven't tried that, the rocks may burn right through it. Otherwise it is a good buy it can serve as more than just a hat.
