I recieved the hat today, just in time to take it on a 6 hour dayhike.
I carried a 35 pound pack for the exercise and hiked aprox 14 miles on varied terain most of which was in the sun.
It's a fairly lightweight hat at 2.8 oz on my postal scale (exactly as listed). It's versital with three coverage options that work well. It has a bomber warranty, and kept my head cooler than any other hat I've tried (and I've tried a lot).
My only con comment for this hat is that it's dorky looking. Not really a hat I'd want to wear out of the bush. But I knew this at the time of purchase, and decided that it wasa small trade off for performance. I really don't think the chipmunks and deer mind, so why should I?
My only complaint is with the shipping. When I purchased this product along with others, it was on backorder. The other items were shipped using FED EX which I prefer much more than UPS because the service is faster and better so no complaints there. But when this product came in, I was not given a new link to track the shipping of this item which makes me nervous because if no one is home at the time of delivery, either company will just leave it on the porch. I've had a few items stolen off the porch over the years.
I was looking for a new hat primarily for kayaking and also to be used for running. I've had some skin cancers removed, so I have to be careful about sun exposure. I've used a Seattle Sombrero for years as my kayaking hat, but gave up on it recently as it's too warm and the brims don't stay down because breezes cause the velcro to grab on the crown (so the sides of your face and neck are not protected). I've used this hat for 2 weeks now and am very pleased with it. It's very cool (with venting on the sides of the crown) and the sunskirt can be adjusted to protect your face and neck (Lawrence of Arabia position) or pulled back to protect mainly the back of the neck. The velcro sizing tab in the back can be adjusted to keep the hat from blowing off without being uncomfortable. The brim of the hat does a much better job of intercepting paddle spray from coating my sunglasses with salt residure than my Sombrero. This may also become my hiking hat when I know I'm going to be on exposed ridgelines. One consideration is to realize that the hat is not designed to be waterproof, so it won't work as a rain hat. That being said, though, it does dry very quickly when it does get wet.
Overall a great hat. Well made and cut for full face and neck coverage. Convertable design is nice. I did notice that the material tends to trap in air which made me feel warmer than I should.
Great for sun protection, I am out in it 8 hours straight and this hat is great.

I ordered it about two weeks before I needed it - via regular mail. It really took too long to come. Else, no complaints.

I am taking this hat with me up Cho Oyu this april! Although I have not used the hat in its full capacity yet, I have to say that already I love it. The hat itself is like 2 hats in one. When I climbed McKinley, the blazing sun bounced off the glacier and fried anything exposed. At the time I had this similar looking nylon sarfari hat that worked ok. The major difference in this hat is that the fabric is so light and airy. The hatband in the hat feels very comfortable against my forehead. The cinch strap will definitely be a welcomed addition to the product to help block the sun. And as a bonus, you can unclip the sundrape and it leaves you with a great cap with a great velcro strap adjustment in the back to fit any head... thus 2 hats in one. And as always, OR products are built to last. I am very impressed with how perfect this hat is for my needs. If you are heading anywhere where the sun it strong, this is the hat for you
