Advertised as a next to the skin layer the Mountain Hardware transition featerweight is ahead of the rest. I find that it almost wicks moisture too well so I wear as a second layer over a thin poly top. I find it does fit a little snug so I order a full size larger.. My uses of this fabric, and this is a repeat purchase, include as an ultralight warm and windproof emergency summer layer to my preferred middle layer while cold weather hiking. In fact in winter I wear one layer and have a backup in the pack as part of emergency gear. The transition bottems that go with this top are the lightest warmest I have come across..Hiking in the NH Whites nasty windy weather can happen at anytime and quickly..Transition is always the first layer I reach for when getting the gear out.

Great for those cold(ish) windy days. If you are working hard, all you need underneath is a wicking ls tee. Use in a layering system when colder or during less strenuous activity.

I bought a perforated leather jacket for riding my motorcycle and needed a windproof liner for cold weather riding like today, which was 38F. This works amazingly well. If you need a windproof layer, this is the shirt for you.

I'd give props so far. The fit is definately tight - I got an XL and I'm 6 foot and 170 #. A little longer in the hem would be nice, as well as a chest pocket, but it's a good fit for me. I've only worn it running and it blocks the wind and breathes well. It has a lot of seams and I could see where it could chafe, but I wear a wicking T underneath which solves that issue. Overall, it's great. I'll take on my next Pikes Peak Ascent.

Have 4 pieces of N2S gear. This shirt is killer - I use it extensively for cold weather mountian biking, road riding and trail running(Mtn H's Transition jacket is even better with 3 pockets and a tad heavier fabric). Great as a single layer and REALLY warm with a layer underneath. Cuts the wind and cold like nothing else this light.

The shirt works very well, but it very itchy when worn for the correct size. Used it as my base layer on a week long hike and became irriated by the thick seems. My wife now wears it running. the seams don't bother her wearing mine. i bought her one in her size and she thought it was itchy too. size up. also material got caught on something in the dryer and snagged, but still works well. great layer if seams dont bother you.

Only felt comfortable in the coldest weather for me. Also overheated when on long uphills. I tend to hike very hot though and my fellow backpackers will wear this shirt year-round. For those of us who heat up fast, this shirt is only good for extreme cold

Amazing light weight wind blocker
By GergVerified Purchaser from Sierra crest, Lahe Tahoe on 4/18/2006
Pros:
Blocks wind chill, Breathable, Lightweight, Warm
Best Uses:
Cold Weather, Windy weather

Worn as a base layer at 9000 feet on a cold and extremely windy day, I was amazed that such a light fabric completely blocked the chill. It also breathed well and insulated just enough that no additional layer was required.

For weight concious, alpine back packing and travels, Gore WindStopper gets a '10'.

Windproof and warm in any conditions
By Maine Canoe1Verified Purchaser from Poland Spring, Maine on 3/31/2006
Pros:
Comfortable, Compact, Lightweight, Tough, Warm, windproof
Cons:
tight fitting
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Crosscountry Skiing, Day trip, Hiking, Mountaineering

This must have been invented by the elves. The shirt weighs nothing, but can keep you warm and sweatfree by itself from about 20 to 60 degrees. I have used it for years without a rip or even showing any wear. I'd wear it to work if they would let me. It is tight fitting so unless you are thin it won't fit well.

[...] Gear
By Bruin from Deer Valley on 3/23/2006
Best Uses:
Scouring pad

This shirt has a snug fit and pronounced inner seams that rasp against the skin. The material itself is not very soft or comfortable, but the bulky, scratchy seams are the real deal breaker. Absolutely unwearable if your skin is the least bit able to be irritated by abrasion. [...]

By SOG (Sorry Old Guy)Verified Purchaser from Central New York on 3/20/2006
Pros:
Comfortable, Compact, Good fit, Lightweight
Cons:
none yet
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Hiking, Mountaineering

Received the shirt last week and tried it out on a 7 mile hike on the Finger Lakes Trail System. The day was 20 degrees and windy. I used it as part of my layer system. Performed wonderfully. Can't wait to see how it does in warmer weather.

"The perfect windy day cover!"
By The MuleVerified Purchaser from Charleston, SC on 3/8/2006
Pros:
Lightweight, Tough
Cons:
Could be slightly longer in the back
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Day trip, Early mornig runs, Hiking

I purchased this shirt because I alreadfy own 2 of the original Transition Zip T's and this one was purported to be lighter. I was definately not disapointed! Not only is it lighter, it's tougher! No snags when pushing thru brush or from putting on/ taking off my pack. It also seems to fit slightly better. Close, active styling with just enough room to be comfortable as well as having full coverage for my long arms/torso. GREAT Shirt!

Light and does the job.

Best Uses:

bought one for cold weather biking -- liked it -- bought two more -- best light wind-resistant jersey I've worn

Not next to my skin
By utVerified Purchaser from PC utah on 1/31/2006
Cons:
Bad Value

Received it, put it on, started itching immediately.
Snug fit makes thick seams even more irritating. Never had an MH product be so disappointing.

Well-constructed piece of clothing
By Climber/RunnerVerified Purchaser from Raleigh, NC on 1/19/2006
Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality

Another quality piece of craftsmanship from Mountain Hardware. This top is cut with a nice athletic fit, so it's not too roomy or bulky on us thin guys. Unfortunately, once I got it, we got a turn of warmer weather and I haven't been able to really test it out on any workouts but one. It sealed in the warmth quite well during my run.

Like all Mountain Hardware products, this is build with an eye for quality and durability.
