Standing the test of time for over a decade this WINDSTOPPER fleece jacket has been the staple of many backcountry adventurers. Sandwiching a windstopping GORE-TEX membrane between two layers of micro fleece creates a versatile lightweight fleece jacket that can double as a mid-layer or outerwear. For long lasting summit durability Mountain Hardwear added Taslan nylon reinforcements at high abrasion areas along the shoulders, fore-arms, and pocket closures. Although the WINDSTOPPER membrane is breathable you'll be able to dump excess heat in a hurry with the extra long pit-zips. Loaded with extra details like Power Stretch cuffs which provide a snug fit around the wrist, high-cut collar to keep the back of the neck warm, and zipper toggles for easy grip even with a glove, the Tech jacket is a cut above the average fleece jacket.

Windproof, breathable and oh so durable WINDSTOPPER fleece with 3-ply polyester taslan reinforcements

Block all the wind with 1-hand hem drawcord and Polartec Power Stretch cuffs

Cool down quickly with extra-long pit zips and a full-zip front

Articulated elbows allow for a low-bulk fit with full range of motion

Taslan-reinforced shoulders and forearms stand up to backpack shoulder straps

Store trail maps and snacks in the zippered right chest pocket, internal left chest pocket and handwarmer pockets

Weight: 1 lb 5 oz

Shell fabric: polyester microfleece/Taslan nylon

Liner fabric: polyester tricot knit

Laminate: GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER

Specifications based on size Large.

I recently purchased my 2nd Windstopper Tech Jacket from MH. The first one lasted me for almost 7 years of continued use and abuse. The jacket was used for everything from extended backpacking to climbing to work and a visit to the local pub. A great all-around jacket and a solid price.

Having worn a Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Vest for the past two years, I already knew the advantages that this jacket promised me. Like the vest, the jacket provides windproof protection with minimal weight and bulk. And, when the temperatures are not excessively cold, the jacket offers adequate warmth, as well. With a base layer and perhaps a mid-layer under the jacket, I feel prepared for most outdoor activities in cold climates. Or, if I wish to wear the jacket casually around town, etc, it's perfect for that, as well. Keep in mind that the arm pit zips allow one to release body temperature as needed, making this jacket versatile for many conditions. Get it!

I love the windstopper fleece, since I don't need a shell on windy days to stop the wind from cutting through me. However, this jacket is LARGE in the chest. The sleeves are the perfect length (average size medium length), but the chest fits much more like a Lg/XL which is unfortunate because it doesn't layer under my shell.

Only a primaloft jacket with hood, pit zips, reinforced elbows, and waterproof/breathable fabric would maybe be more functional and warmer and weigh less...Maybe??? Not many of those around though, and this jacket is more durable if you hike/climb in trees/rocks/w ice tools. It generates great warmth when you are moving, has super pockets, and cuts wind but doesn't quite have the insulation value of a primaloft or Denali jacket while you are stationary.

This is the best jacket I've ever owned in terms of functionality and durability. It keeps out all wind and medium rain. It breaths well while keeping me warm. The pit zips are very useful in regulating body temperature so that I don't have to take it off when I go inside. It fits great and looks good. Very durable. Can use it for all instances. This is a much better product than the North Face Denali.

Versital, lightweight, all around jacket
By kjwVerified Purchaser from Pinehurst, Texas on 4/12/2006
Pros:
Breathable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm
Best Uses:
Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping, Travel

Great jacket that fits the bill for every use. Provided warmth in snow, high winds and light drizzle in Moab, Utah area. Perfect to take the chill off in early morning and evening hours. Lightweight and low bulk make it a great add to the daypack for any anticipated or unanticipated mountain weather. I did not have the opportunity to test in a hard rain, but I usually carry a light weight rain jacket in the pack as well.

Fit is tight. I'm usually a medium or large fit (6 feet tall, 185 lbs.). Order one size larger than usual if you want to layer.

Compact and warm
By PCVerified Purchaser from Tokyo, Japan on 3/15/2006
Pros:
Compact, Lightweight, Warm
Best Uses:
climbing, Day trip, Hiking

This was the first time I bought outdoor gear by Internet, and I was a little worried If I would get the size of the jacket right. In the end, I had three good surprises:

1) [...]
2) It fits perfectly!
3) It's as lightweight as advertised in the website, and feels really warm.

To summarize: an ideal fleece jacket for those late autumn or early spring days in the mountains.

It's a great jacket all around
By Jake the camping guyVerified Purchaser from Bradley WV on 1/27/2006
Pros:
and it's Breathable, Durable, High Quality
Cons:
A little on the expensive side
Best Uses:
At camp or in town it's a great jacket, from 30 to 60 degrees it's perfect

The wind stopper element in the jacket makes it able to be worn by itself at much lower tempratures than you would at first think. It was sixteen degrees this morning and I was comfortably warm on a ten minute walk with just a long sleeve tee as my base.

Light fabric that really cuts the wind
By Mitch the new outdoorsmanVerified Purchaser from Knoxville, TN on 1/25/2006
Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality, Light-weight fabric

This jacket is exceptional at keeping the wind away. Its light-weight fabric allows for layering if needed and a remarkable wind-stopping capability. It really is amazing that such a light jacket can keep the cold and wind out.

Great city jacket
By Outdoors in the cityVerified Reviewer from San Francisco, CA on 12/9/2005
Pros:
Durable, Easy to wear just about any time, High Quality
Best Uses:
Everyday casual, Hiking

I bought this originally for day hiking in Marin. But at this point, it's my primary jacket because it solves all of my problems. It looks good enough that I can walk into shops and restaurants without feeling "dressed down", it keeps the wind out, but doesn't get too hot.
