I was very pleased with both the fit and quality of this product. I found that it also zips into my gore tex parka (from another manufacturer) as a liner. [...]
The outside Seven-Summits patch was not sewn at the top. I carefully cut the patch off to prevent it from ripping a hole in the vest. I own other North Face gear and clothing and consider it to be among the best available at a reasonable price. I would buy the vest again, although the patch was loose[...]Thanks,Jeff
Well, there is a reason this is a staple for cool dry weather. It's lightweight, super warm, and comfy. The only downside I've found is that it gets bad static when I wear it on carpet; a little anti-statc spray solved the problem.
On a style note, the 7 summits patches seem a little gimmicky, but the big one is on the inside.
Overall, I'm super happy and haven't taken it off yet.
The vest has been a great addition on the slopes in Breckenridge and for more casual settings. DJ
Vests are a great, stylish way to keep warm. Of my 8 mountain vests, this ranks at the top!
I've always wanted to get a vest so I could use it as an outer shell on cold yet not extreme days, and also use it to have versatility in my arms while keeping my core warm. While I was in between north face or padagonia vests, I am so glad I got the North Face Nuptse. - Is very warm, yet lightweight-looks good-through m-gear awesome price-part of the summit series-Best [...] bucks I've spent in a while- Great for wearing a sweatshirt under on cold days, good for skiing to have the versatility in your arms for poling etc. [...]
Quality was all that I hoped for. You could feel the extra down fill and the pockets were lined and comfortable. Perfect for many uses.

I bought this for three purposes: (1) insulating layer on cold days, (2) outer layer on calm, cool days, (3) wearing around the house first thing in the morning when it's butt cold (we turn the heat way down at night). It does these three things perfectly. This piece appears to be designed to be worn under a shell in cold windy conditions or on top of a fleece etc on a cold calm days. People looking for a down vest to use primarily as outerwear might not be as happy about the shell material and lack of arm elastic.
Fit: Like all TNF outerwear, it is sized slightly larger than most other makers. Basically, I'm a medium from every maker except TNF, where I am a small. I'm 5'11', 150 lbs my measured chest is 37". The small Nuptse vest and Apex Bionic Jacket are perfect (size chart says 38). However, I tried size small down vests soft shell jackets from Columbia and Marmot (size charts say 36-38) and they were way too small.
The collar/neck roll is thick and fits close to the neck providing very good neck insulation and draft protection. It also means it will accumulate body oils if you wear it a lot.
Finish: The shell nylon is light, thin, and soft (unlike many down vests that have a thicker, more weather resistant shell), which I was happy about because it makes it easier to layer and easier to wear around the house because the fabric is not as stiff. Also while there is a nice cinch cord for the waist, there is no elastic (or draft skirt) in the arm holes to reduce the wind flow if you wear it on top on a windy day.
Though I didn't realize it at the time of purchase, this is actually a summit series vest with the little mountain patch in it.
It took a couple days before it fully lofted.
