MAN SKIRT! Perfect liberation. Snap in the middle makes it like very baggy shorts while looking great. Adjustable strap at hip makes it a perfect fit. Repels water and washes well. The price compared to similar style kilts is great!!! More colors and patterns needed!

I bought this kilt for my boyfriend as a birthday gift, he put it on immediately and loves it! I was worried about the sizing, but he is a 34" waist and the Large was a perfect fit. He thinks its very comfortable, said he feels much cooler! Mtn Hardwear, any more colors?

My boyfriend loves his MK. Although he hasn't left the house in it yet, it is all he wears at home. Cut small at the waist, so order 1 size up.

This is not a kilt, it's a skirt. It wraps the wrong direction and because of the inside strap it isn't a true wrap around garment, you have to step into it much like you would a pair of shorts. The pockets aren't distributed evenly around the garment like on a pair of shorts, so the things I usually carry end up being stuffed into two pockets which then cause the skirt to hang incorrectly. Putting the stuff in a pack would fix that problem. Having said all that, it is comfortable and seems to wear well. It's about half the price or less than anything else out there that is more like a traditional kilt. If you are not a "kilt purist" you will probably be happy with this product.

I love/ enjoy/ & even want another skirt/kilt! It's totally fun to wear because it's totally different! My wife got it for me as a gift, even in the right size on the 1st try! I do a lot of kayaking, it's easy to step into and go! I find myself looking at my reflections any chance I get! I do get looks as if other guys are like why can't I wear what he has on. I just got 4 days ago & I counted the complements not just looks I recieved from women 1,2,3,4 in 1 day. I just wish it came in other colors thats all! What wierd is this I wore it for a 2nd time and I don't remember any looks...maybe I'm just used to it now!

I'm out there and LOVIN" it!! After sending the L back and exchanging for the XL (size chart not accurate), I'm thrilled! Truly the most comfortable piece of clothing I own. It's about comfort and reliability, not "public opinion"! Wear this and be a TRUE MAN!

I wore the Mountain Gear Mountain Kilt on the John Muir Trail during August. There were many favorable comments. For the trail, there is nothing better. Washes easy, dries fast. Easy on, easy off. At home in the Midwest, I am quite comfortable wearing it to the grocery, etc., with basic kilt manners.
The fabric under the right hand buckle-clip is getting quite worn from wear.

More men need to gain up and go non-bifurcated in their garments. This kilt is tailor made to keepong chafage down to a bare minimum.

The kilt is great. Its a very plain wrap around kilt with no pleating. By far it is one of the most comfortable things I've ever worn. My only not so positive comment is that the sizing chart is true to your actual waist size not your common pants size. If you take a measuring belt and measure your waist with a pair of comfy pants on you'll get the accurate size to order. If you simply order your regular pants size then you'll get a size too small. A simple fix is to order a medium instead of a small, a large instead of a medium, and an extra large instead of a large. This should help you out some.

The kilt itself rocks but the sizing chart is off. I'm a 32-33 and so ordered a Medium sure enough I was having to suck in to snap the belt. Buy one size bigger you'll be glad you did.

Product is great, but the Mountain Hardwear sizing chart showed that a Large would fit a 34 to 37 inch waist. 34 is the largest waist size this product will accomodate. Will be returning for an XL

great idea
By RedVerified Purchaser from Palm Desert, CA on 8/10/2006
Pros:
Breathable, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Lightweight, Snaps to make shorts, Stylish, Washes Well
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Travel, Wet Weather

had my boyfriend get this for me since small was the only size available and we girls can look good in kilts too- he's now convinced that it's really cool and is getting one in his size - apparently men have chaffing issues that this would be great for. I'll take his word for it. Has snaps that will turn it into shorts should you need to do cartwheels or stand on your head and not flash anyone.

Cons:
no color choice
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Travel, Wet Weather

I was a little hesistant at first wearing this garment on the trail, but the comfort and coolness completely won me over! This is absolutely fantastic for hiking and backpacking in warm weather! It is so comfortable and non-constricting that it is now my favorite choice for around town. No negative comments at all! Now if Mountain Hardwear would make a model for spring and fall, and in other colors! You must try this!

Innovative, Fashionable Product

Cons:
Wife doesn't like it
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Travel, Wet Weather

I have worn my mountain kilt everywhere around town, and aside from a few sidelong glances from women, no one has ever even seemed to notice. The comfort and freedom is unbelievable. I can't understand why, after wearing skirts for thousands of years, men switched to restrictive pants. Mountain Hardwear's kilt is reason enough to switch back. Hope this trend goes mainstream!

By nobones from Portland, OR on 7/27/2006
Pros:
Comfortable, Lightweight
Cons:
Poor Material or Construction
Best Uses:

The kilt itself fits perfectly and I love it, but the belt on the size large that I bought is only 35 inches around at its absolute largest, while the sizing chart states that a large should fit up to a size 37.

Comfort on the trail

Pros:

Comfort on the trail

First, if awkward stares and questions bother you then perhaps the Mountain Kilt is not for you. However, if you are of a gregarious nature this article of clothing is definitely a conversation piece.

Personally, I love it. It is breathable, a plus in the Southwest, and no problems with chaffing or creeping. I bagged a couple of peaks carrying a 60lbs pack while wearing it and with no negative experiences. Another great feature, understandably not marketed, is that when nature calls?the answer has never been easier.

I plan on wearing it this winter up in daks?we?ll see how that goes.

Negative: Colour choice..."It should come in some traditional Scottish Colours."

Awesome and cool
By Hiker, Biker, SwimmerVerified Reviewer from Yakima, Washington on 7/24/2006
Pros:
Breathable, High-Quality Material and Stitching, Lightweight, Washes Well
Cons:
Pockets a bit small
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Camping, Casual Wear, Travel

Most comfortable clothing available. Lenght is just about perfect, too. Mostly wear mine casually, around town and all. Starting to see other men in kilts, etc, too. One time some one asked I just told them its a modern kilt and that it is VERY, VERY comfortable. Excellent design, and modesty issues have not been a problem. Pockets are adequate, and would like to see them just a bit larger in the next generation of this product.

I haven't tried actual camping or backpacking in the kilt, but I did a week of narrowboating in England-- mostly in the rain-- and it was wonderful. I wear the kilt instead of shorts for casual wear in both Baltimore and New York-- with nothing but favorable comments from the public.

Definitely the best warm-weather clothing going.

I had a friend make me one in denim for cooler weather.
