slight reduction in hearing but thats expected
I use this with an OP Option Balaclava for head wear. It allows me to layer easily and fits uder a helmet. I was warm in a blizzard 0 degrees and 30-50 mph winds for several hours of climbing. My only issue is the chin strap. If the cord of the chin strap rubs across something and vibrates you can hear it amplified in the ear flaps. This is easy to fix. Because the cap is lighter than the MH Dome Perignon it has become my new favorite.
At first I was concerned that I didn't buy a water-resistant shell hat. But in 20 and 30 degree rainy weather atop Yosemite's peaks, this hat kept me more than warm enough despite being damp. It wicks moisture wonderfully, extremely lightweight (especially after I cut the straps off), and the ear flaps are easy to flip up after the hat makes you too hot (and it will make you too hot). Wonderful hat.
This hat is made with the usually high level of quality you get from Mountain Hardwear. I like how it's windproof at the ears too. I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong size or if it's suppose to have a real snug fit. I have a pretty big head(7-5/8") and I ordered an XL but I can live with the snug fit. But if you have a giant noggin like me and don't like the snug fit then go with a XXL if it's an option. Otherwise a good hat that I got at a great price from Mountain Gear.
As usual, Mountain Hardware scores a homer with this hat.
