Have worn this coat on top of Mt. Rainier and Kilimanjaro. I put it on during rest breaks and on the summit on top of all other layers. It's the perfect parka for the money. Also great for snow show trips. I never go out in the back country without it.

Great down coat for a great price. The coat doesn't fit true to size; I originally ordered a medium following the size chart but found it to be too big overall. I returned it for a small and it fits perfectly. The detachable hood is a great feature as well.

I'm still waiting to use the jacket, it hasn't gotten cold enough yet. However, I have tried it on several times, great fit. I've been a sceptic about size after reading some comments. I have a long torso and long arms, and generally wear a medium in a top. Medium was perfect, in fact I almost thought it was a tad big, but a small may have been too small once I get bulkier clothing on underneath. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

This parka served me well climbing Mt. Rainier. It fit well into its little bag and was light. It kept me warm and dry. I can't wait to use it on my next mountaineering experience and would recommend it to others. I also liked the pink (Rosie) color.

i love this jacket - it is great to throw on and go - and know i'll be toasty warm. it is light in weight and despite it's loft, is not restricting and bulky... do note that i am a standard size medium but did have to go down a size for a better fit. I do like it so much and wishing a little spark of color that, i also ordered it in Tomato. alas! i guess enough people also loved this jacket because it was sold out! maybe next year.

Living in Northern Michigan, I was looking for a heavy, down-filled jacket with a hood, and this jacket is fabulous. When I first unpacked it, it seemed a little thin, but wow, putting it on and wearing it in the last 3 weeks of 10 below zero weather, it kept me perfectly warm. Walking in and out of stores, you're not overbaked or sweating, either. This jacket can adjust. The hood easily unzips (if Spring ever arrives) and the jacket fits very nicely, straight down but almost fashionable. Today it was a freakish 50 degrees and I wore it all day, as I did all last week when it was minus 10 below. The hood is very deep and can really cover your head in those ice/sleet/hailstorms. Unfortunately, I waited too long into the season to buy this so only one color was left, but if I had the option, I would buy at least one in another color. Fits very true. I'm a size 8 and I ordered a medium and it's perfect, though I could probably have gone smaller, too, depending on what you're wearing underneath. Great velcro cuffs. Just perfect. (I tried similar North Face and Marmot jackets at a local store but they were too short...you want your rear end partially covered if you're buying this for cold weather). This replaced a heavy 700-down fill $[...] Cabela's jacket and it's much much better.

After doing extensive searches for a women's down jacket with a hood (which is near to impossible), I found this! The size 08 (which is larger than what I would normally wear) allows a sweater and layers to be worn under, but a waterproof shell to be worn over it. For backcountry gigs, this jacket is the best bet. The zip off hood allows for versatility and added warmth when it realy counts. The water resistant outer fabric is lightweight but more durable than other brands. My only criticism is that the sleeves are a bit short and sneak out from under mittens/gloves, but that could be less a fault of the jacket and more to do with gangly girl arms...Great jacket!

Light as a feather but surprisingly warm
By SarahVerified Purchaser from Lynn, MA on 1/25/2006
Pros:
Compact, Lightweight
Cons:
Delicate
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Day trip

I wanted a jacket that was "slim fitting" not bulky. When I got it, I was afraid it too light and it wouldn't keep me warm. To my surprise, I am very warm on those cold days. When I wear this coat, I feel like I am not wearing anything at all. When it's super cold, I wear a North Face fleece underneath. I am completely satisfied with this coat and I am extremely picky!!!
