sweet jacket
By SK, backpacker & college student from Northfield, MN on 1/30/2006
Pros:
Lightweight, Tough, Warmer Than I Expected
Best Uses:
around town, Backpacking, Car Camping

I love this jacket. It looks good and fits well (flattering, but not so tight you can't layer a light fleece underneath) and it totally cuts rain/wind/etc. I expected to only use it in spring and fall, but with a 200-weight fleece underneath it has kept me warm down to 30 degrees or so (and I'm really bad in the cold). Only con is the zipper is a little tough towards the top. But I think that's more a testament to the durability of the jacket than a major flaw.

I wouldn't take it as a shell to use while hiking, because it's not breathable. But I usually prefer getting wet during the day and changing when I get into camp anyway (except in the very worst downpours), so this doubles really nicely as a rain jacket and light insulation, and it saves having to pack both layers separately.
