Having read some previous comments I'd like to give my own views. Yes, you shouldn't swim in it. Suunto tells you this at the outset and this isn't a dive watch (Suunto makes great dive watches also). Yes, the face can tend to scratch easily although I've had mine for 2 years and the face is VERY readable. As far as battery life, I'm not sure what the expectatons are, but I replaced my battery for the first time at 15 months. All of this being said, the instrumentation is great. Very reliable so long as you calibrate the watch correctly. This watch is probably the best available for it's functionality. It will take you 30 minutes or so to familiarize yourself with all of the functions. [$] VS Most Liked Negative Review lacks a continous second reading I really like this tool, especially for its ability to aid in navigation, however I have decided to return to my former watch after I discovered that the seconds read out would only display ...Read complete review I really like this tool, especially for its ability to aid in navigation, however I have decided to return to my former watch after I discovered that the seconds read out would only display for a few seconds. There is an animated "second hand" that counts seconds, but I felt it was difficult to be accurate. I work as a outdoor educator and I need my watch to take vital signs in an emergency situation. I just didn't feel confidant in the "second hand" thing. It was had to retire this watch for this reason, but after a couple of years with an analog watch I really don't miss it. Hope this helps. Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: it's a bargain Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: We bought this watch for our son for his graduation from High School so that he can have it when he enters the US Air Force in the Fall, so far he seems to be enjoying it, tremendously. This watch came highly recommended to us by multiple military personnel, both active and retired. The only negative is that it is a large watch. Pros

Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: I have had previous versions of this watch and liked the fact that I could change the battery myself. Brands like Casio void your warrant as soon as the battery is changed by anyone. Sunnto does not and the battery is easy to change. I am not fond of the band, it catches on clothing. I have replace the band on the previous versions that I owned. Otherwise a great watch. Pros

Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: This is a great watch. My first Vector has lasted more than a decade and is still spot on. The buttons were getting a bit vague so I purchased a new one at a killer price. It is accurate and reliable and I wear it constantly in all outdoor pursuits. Its rugged and puts up with all the usual back country abuse. I wouldn't recommend crack climbing with it unless you want to trash the face but apart from that, none better. And its made in Finland not China, the last of the Finnish Suuntos. Service and delivery comments: As always a great price and prompt service Pros

Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: I have been using this watch 5 years. At the 3 year mark I was on an airline flight and the altimeter tanked (I fly about once a month). At that time the watch plastic was so brittle from 3 years of constant use (I wear it 24 hours a day: sleeping, shower, the works) that I couldnt take the battery cover off without the plastic breaking. [...] I had a completely rebuilt watch (strap, cover, everything). The watch does scratch easily (for example, I was shoveling gravel and realized that I scratched the watch all up from doing work), but some 2000 wet sandpaper cleared up the face easily. This watch has been a trooper. I destroy most watches within 6 months and this one has lasted years. I would recommend this watch to anyone. Plus at the current price point, this watch is a steal. Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: I've given up on expecting what is advertised to be true with the Vector, after three (yeah, I know "fool me once...") dogged attempts at making this my watch. Pros

Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: I got this wrist computer to monitor altitude gained/lost while hiking. It's easy to use but not very accurate. I know that it's based on atmospheric pressure but I was expecting more... on a 'round trip' hike (started and ended at the same trailhead), it said I gained 350' and lost 930'. The real number is closer to 1,500'. I'm going to keep it but I not going to rely on it for serious navigation. Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Suunto USA Vector Watch: I bought the Suunto Vector when my Avocet altimiter watch finally died, then propmtly returned it. As a ski patroller and back country skier this watch lacks the ability to view current log book data while the current log book is recording. According to the product manual this feature is available for the Altimax and S-Lander models but with the Vector and X-Lander you can't view current accumulated vertical or number of laps while in the current log book, only in past log books. It makes no sense not to have access to this data during a ski day. Pros
